The Tampa Bay Lightning and the San Jose Sharks meet in NHL action from the SAP Center on Saturday.
The Tampa Bay Lightning will try to add to their 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks from their last game. Nikita Kucherov leads the Lighning with 11 points including a team-high 9 assists while Steven Stamkos has 9 points with a team-high 7 goals on the year. Victor Hedman and Mikhail Sergachev each have 7 points with a combined 13 assists as well for the Bolts so far this season. Andrei Vasilevskiy is 2-3 with a 2.84 GAA and a .914 save percentage while Brian Elliott is 2-1 with a 3.35 GAA and a .900 save percentage so far between the pipes for Tampa Bay.
The San Jose Sharks will look to build on their 4-3 OT win over Toronto last time out, alternating wins and losses in each of their last five games. Erik Karlsson has a team-high 9 points with a team-high 4 goals and 5 assists while Logan Couture has 7 points with 4 goals of his own and 3 assists. Nico Sturm also has 4 goals this season. James Reimer has gone 2-4 with a 2.55 GAA and a .924 save percentage while Kaapo Kahkonen is 1-3 with a 3.33 GAA and an .875 save percentage in goal for the Sharks this season.
Tampa Bay is 1-6 in their last 7 games following a win and 103-34 in their last 137 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games against the Pacific division. San Jose is 1-5 in their last 6 home games and 1-5 in their last 6 games against the Atlantic division while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 games overall.
I get the allure of a home underdog and San Jose just took out Toronto so there has to be some element of confidence for the Sharks, but the problem is that the Sharks are still one of the worst teams in the NHL, and the Lightning are a far better team than what we’ve seen up to this point in the season. I just think this is a bad matchup for the Sharks, so I’ll side with Tampa Bay to pick up the win here.
