The Columbus Blue Jackets and the St. Louis Blues meet in NHL action from the Enterprise Center on Saturday night.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will be out to bounce back after falling to 0-2 with a 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay last time out. Johnny Gaudreau and Gustav Nyquist each had a goal for Columbus while Boone Jenner, Erik Gudbranson, Justin Danforth and Kent Johnson each had an assist for Columbus in the loss. Daniil Tarasov took the loss after allowing all 5 goals on 39 shots faced in the losing effort.

The St. Louis Blues will start the 2022-23 season looking to build on some positive vibes in 2021-22, finishing the year at 49-22-11, making the playoffs for the 11th straight year. The majority of the Blues’ group is still in tact, led by Vladimir Tarasenko who had a team-high 82 points and 34 goals last season. Robert Thomas is back too after posting a team-high 57 assists as part of his 77 points last season. Pavel Buchnevich and Jordan Kyrou each had 75+ points as well while Ivan Barbashev added 60 points. The goaltending duties appear to be left all to Jordan Binnington, who went 18-14-4 last season, splitting time with Ville Husso and Charlie Lindgren, both of whom are gone elsewhere this season.

Columbus is 16-36 in their last 52 road games and 2-7 in their last 9 games overall while the over is 12-4 in their last 16 games played on no rest. St. Louis is 2-6 in their last 8 home games and 3-7 in their last 10 games against the Metropolitan division while the over is 36-14-2 in their last 52 Saturday games.

I get the case to be made for either side here, but I’m looking at the Blues in this one. Columbus has had a couple of games to shake off the rust, but the problem is that they didn’t look good in either of those games and it just makes it really hard to back the team in those instances. On the other side, St. Louis hasn’t had a game yet, but this is still the better team from top-to-bottom, and I’ve got high hopes for the Blues again this year. All in all, I’ve got to side with the Blues here.
