The Dallas Stars and the Toronto Maple Leafs meet in NHL action from Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night.
The Dallas Stars will look to build on their 3rd straight win after a 4-1 win over Winnipeg in their last game. Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson and Mason Marchment each have a team-high 5 points, with Marchment logging a team-high 3 goals and a pair of assists while Hintz has 2 goals with 3 helpers and Robertson has a team-high 4 assists. Tyler Seguin has 4 points with a team-high 3 assists and Miro Heiskanen and Joe Pavelski each have 3 points with Heiskanen logging a pair of goals and Pavelski adding a pair of assists. Jake Oettinger’s gone 3-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .966 save percentage so far this season between the pipes for Dallas.
The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to rebound from a disappointing 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes last time out. John Tavares has a team-high 5 points with 4 assists while Mitch Marner, Morgan Rielly and William Nylander each have 4 points with Rielly logging 4 assists while Marner has 3 helpers and Nylander has a team-high 3 goals. Calle Jarnkrok, Auston Matthews and Michael Bunting each have a goal and an assist as well this season. Ilya Samsonov’s gone 2-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a .926 save percentage for Toronto in goal so far this season.
Dallas is 2-6 in their last 8 road games and 4-1 in their last 5 games overall while the under is 2-0-2 in their last 4 games overall. Toronto is 40-16 in their last 56 home games and 5-2 in their last 7 Thursday games while the over is 43-20-8 in their last 71 games overall.
I get the reasoning for backing either side here as the Leafs are too good to struggle like this but they did just lose to the Coyotes and face a far better Dallas team here. However I’m looking at the under as Dallas just isn’t a consistently high-scoring team and I expect some regression at some point. On the other side if Dallas wants to win this game, they’ll have to flex some defensive muscle and win a grind it out style of game. I think it’s 3-2 whichever way it goes, so give me the under here.
