The Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders meet in NHL action from the UBS Arena on Wednesday night. Let’s dive into the odds, matchup history and make a prediction for this game.

Odds

New York is listed as a -365 home favorite while Montreal is a +280 road underdog. The total for this game is set at 6 goals.

Matchup History

Montreal’s 4-3 OT win over New York back on February 11th, 2023, snapped the Islanders two-game head-to-head win streak in this matchup.

Trends

Montreal is 32-67 in their last 99 games against the Eastern Conference and 22-48 in their last 70 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 9-3 in their last 12 games against the Metropolitan division. New York is 4-1 in their last 5 home games and 50-23 in their last 73 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the under is 16-7-3 in their last 26 home games.

Pick

I’m backing the under here. I was initially looking at Montreal on the puck line, but the Islanders got a huge lifeline with the Panthers and especially the Penguins both losing on Tuesday. New York stumbled against Chicago but I think they realize the severity of the situation here and know they can ill afford another slip up so I think we see a concerted defensive effort from New York here but I also don’t expect the Islanders to light up the scoreboard here so give me the under.
