Vancouver Canucks vs Calgary Flames Prediction 10/9/25 NHL Picks Today

The Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks meet Thursday in NHL action from the Rogers Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks prediction.

Calgary Flames Recap

The Calgary Flames come into this game looking to build on their season-opening 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers last time out to sit at 1-0 this season. After this game, Calgary will head home for their home opener against the St. Louis Blues.

Flames Looking To Secure Back-To-Back Sweep To Start The Year

The Oilers would take the lead on Calgary just before the midway point of the opening period and double the advantage with less than four minutes to go in the opening frame. Edmonton would again strike 8:32 into the second period to stake themselves a 3-0 lead. However, Matvei Gridin got the Flames on the board with just over seven minutes to go in the middle period and Connor Zary would cut the deficit to one on the power play just 2:07 later. Blake Coleman would tie the game at three for Calgary in the opening minute of the third and despite the best efforts on both sides, regulation nor OT would solve anything so it was off to the shootout where Nazem Kadri would pot the winner in round 8 to complete the comeback for Calgary. Dustin Wolf got the win to start the year at 1-0 after stopping 32 of 35 shots faced in the winning effort.

Vancouver Canucks Team Preview

The Vancouver Canucks will be hoping to get back on track in 2025-26, finishing the year at 38-30-14, missing the playoffs for the 4th time in the last five seasons. The Vancouver Canucks for the most part will run it back with a lot of the roster they had in 2024-25, with Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser and Jake DeBrusk leading the top line. Evander Kane comes over from Edmonton to give the Canucks some extra forward depth. Quinn Hughes and Filip Hronek will likely be the top pairing for the Canucks’ defensive group this season along with Marcus Pettersson and Tyler Myers who provide added defensive depth for Vancouver on the back end. Thatcher Demko will hope for a clean bill of health after a frustrating season from that perspective, though Kevin Lankinen was a serviceable backup option for the Canucks in the crease last season.

Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction

I’m on the Canucks here. This is just a bad spot for the Flames off of an emotional extra time win over the rival Oilers on Wednesday and Calgary was not a good offensive team on the second half of a back-to-back last season. The Canucks could have some rust as the Flames have already had a game to shake that off, but I think the Canucks get it done at home here and get the win. Give me Vancouver.
