The San Diego State Aztecs and the Air Force Falcons meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the Clune Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The San Diego State Aztecs will look to build some momentum after an 84-54 beatdown of Wyoming in their last outing. Jalen McDaniels led the Aztecs with 22 points on 8 of 14 shooting with a team-high 12 rebounds for the double-double while Matt Mitchell added 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a perfect 4 of 4 mark from 3-point range. Jordan Schakel added 14 points and 7 rebounds while Devin Watson added 4 threes for his 12 points along with a team-high 8 assists to round out the scoring in double figures for SDSU in the win. Watson leads San Diego State with an average of 15.7 points and 5.4 assists per game while McDaniels leads the Aztecs on the glass with 7.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, San Diego State is averaging 76.5 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 38.9% from 3-point range and 72.8% from the foul line this season.
The Air Force Falcons will look to rebound after losing 3 straight and 5 of their last 6 games following an 87-64 loss to Colorado State in their last outing. Lavelle Scottie led the Falcons with 20 points on 8 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes while Ryan Swan added 10 points on 4 of 10 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds as the only other Air Force player to finish in double figures scoring in the losing effort for the Falcons. Scottie leads Air Force in scoring with an average of 13.2 points per game while Swan leads the Falcons in rebounding with 5.8 rebounds per game and Sid Tomes leads Air Force in assists with 2.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Air Force is averaging 66.6 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the arc and 67.1% from the foul line this season.
San Diego State is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Air Force is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a loss and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. San Diego State is 3-9 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these two teams.
Air Force has been a tough out at home dating back to last season and the Aztecs haven’t necessarily had much luck against the Falcons for quite some time now. However, the Falcons are struggling big time right now, losing their first 3 conference matchups, including their last 2 by a combined 40 points. San Diego State laying points on the road is tough considering this isn’t the same defensively dominant squad that we’ve become accustomed to seeing, but the fact is that the Aztecs are the better team here and should get the job done so I’ll lay the points with San Diego State here.
