The Western Michigan Broncos and the Akron Zips will match up on the college basketball circuit Saturday.
Western Michigan enters this game at 6-7 overall. The Broncos were on a three-game losing streak versus Michigan, Dayton and Milwaukee but won their last game versus UC Riverside.
In the Highlanders game, Western Michigan’s Michael Flowers led the team on 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Doubling up for the Broncos in that one was Kawanise Wilkins with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Over on the Akron side, they’re currently 8-5 this year. The Zips are just 2-2 in their last four games, falling to Marshall and Nevada while beating Tennessee State and Carnegie Mellon.
In the Tartans matchup, Akron was led by Daniel Utomi with 22 points, six rebounds and two assists. Channel Banks added 13 points for the Zips, and Tyler Cheese put up 12 points and six rebounds.
Western Michigan is 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five overall. The Broncos are 2-6 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven versus the MAC.
Meanwhile, the Zips are 5-1 ATS in their last six versus a team with a losing straight-up record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. The under is 7-1 in Akron’s last eight Saturday games and 4-1 in their last five overall.
The Broncos do have some nice pieces on their squad this year, and they have shown some flashes of being a better team than their record indicates, but on the whole things have simply been overly inconsistent.
Akron is in something of the same boat, but the team has some spunk that will serve them well down the line. I’m going to go with the Zips here.
