The Alabama State Hornets clash with the Liberty Flames in the St. Pete Shootout college basketball tournament.
The Alabama State Hornets fell to the loser’s bracket in the St. Pete Shootout with a 78-57 defeat at the hands of Sam Houston State. This was over quick with Alabama State facing a 39-13 hole after 20 minutes with 21 turnovers leading to 12 more Bearkats shots.
Jacoby Ross was the top weapon for the Hornets, leading all scorers with 21 points and three assists on 8-11 marksmanship including three long balls. Alabama State received eleven points and four pulls from Reginald Gee on 4-13 from the floor with a 3-5 effort from long range followed by five players with 4-6 points.
The Liberty Flames fell to 9-3 with an 84-75 defeat at the hands of Alabama in the St. Pete Shootout as a 4.5 point underdog. This was nip and tuck for awhile before the Crimson Tide established and maintained a late lead behind a 52%-43.9% shooting edge and a 25-14 advantage at the stripe.
Caleb Homesly kept the Flames in contention with a contest high 23 points with three yanks and four helpers on 7-16 from the field including five long balls and 5-5 at the line. Scottie James gave Liberty 20 points and eleven rebounds while Darius McGhee tossed in eleven points.
