The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils and the Alabama State Hornets meet in SWAC college basketball action from the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Monday night.

The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils will be looking to snap an 8-game losing streak and pick up their first road win after falling to 0-17 away from home after a 78-63 loss to Alabama A&M in their last outing. Jordan Evans led the Delta Devils with 16 points with 3 threes and a team-high 4 assists while Emmanuel Ejeh added 14 points with 11 rebounds for the double-double as the only other Mississippi Valley State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Dante Scott added 9 points with 9 rebounds and 4 assists of his own as well in the defeat. Scott leads the Delta Devils in scoring with 12.1 points per game while Ejeh leads Mississippi Valley State in rebounding with 7.5 boards per game and Tereke Eckwood leads the Delta Devils in assists with 1.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Mississippi Valley State is averaging 63.2 points per game on 37.5% shooting from the field, 30.4% from behind the arc and 65% from the foul line this season.

The Alabama State Hornets will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 75-69 loss to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in their last outing. Reginald Gee and Tobi Ewuosho each had 12 points to lead the Hornets with Ewuosho adding 10 rebounds for the double-double. Fausto Pichardo added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Alabama State in the losing effort. Gee leads the Hornets in scoring with 14.4 points per game while Ewuosho leads Alabama State in rebounding with 4.6 rebounds per game and Kevin Holston leads Alabama State in assists with 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Alabama State is averaging 67.1 points per game on 40.9% shooting from the field, 32.6% from behind the arc and 62.4% from the foul line this season.

Mississippi Valley State is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a loss. Alabama State is 4-14 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall and 7-2 in their last 9 games following a loss.

Since conference play started, on the road, Mississippi Valley State is 0-6 and is losing those games by an average of 13.8 points per game. The problem on the other hand is that this seems like a lot of points to lay considering that Mississippi Valley State barely lost to Alabama State in overtime last month and that the Delta Devils have had a few close calls on the road as of late. These two teams have a history of close games with 4 of the last 5 meetings and 5 of the last 7 being decided by 5 points or less. I’ll take a shot with Mississippi Valley State and the points here.
