Alabama State Hornets -6.5 O/U: 136.5
The Southern Jaguars and the Alabama State Hornets will meet up on the college basketball court Monday.
Southern tumbles into this matchup at 3-17 overall this season. The Jaguars had managed consecutive wins over AR-Pine Bluff and MS Valley, but fell in their last game to Alabama A&M.
In the loss to the Bulldogs, Southern’s lead scorers (and the only players on the team in double-figures) were Sidney Umude and Aaron Ray, each with 17 points and a combined six rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Alabama State side, they’re 7-10 this season. The Hornets have won their last three straight games, taking out MS Valley, Alabama A&M and Alcorn State during that stretch.
In the win over the Braves, Alabama State’s Reginald Gee led the scoring on 20 points, five rebounds and one assist. Tobi Ewusho had a nice game there for the Hornets on 17 points and eight rebounds, and Jacoby Ross chipped in 15 points.
The Jaguars are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 after a straight-up loss and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 versus a team with a losing straight-up record. Southern is 4-9 ATS in their last 13 versus the Southwestern Athletic and 1-5 ATS in their last six road games.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are 6-1 ATS in their last seven home games and 5-1 ATS in their last six home games versus a team with a losing road record. The under is 4-1 in Alabama State’s last five after an ATS win and 8-3 in their last 11 overall.
Southern had a couple of good outings going there, but got back into some bad habits versus the Bulldogs and fell 68-62 in a well-rounded but ultimately flat offensive effort. The Jaguars haven’t cracked the 70-point mark in five of their last six games.
ASU has had some offensive difficulties of their own here and there, but overall the Hornets are simply a much better team. I’m likely going with Alabama State here.
