The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions and the Alcorn State Braves meet in college basketball action from Davey Whitney Complex on Monday.
AR-Pine Bluff enters this one at 3-21 so far. The Lions are on a nine-game losing streak right now, falling to Jackson State, Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Southern U in their last four.
In the loss to the Jaguars, Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s lead scorer was Zavian Jackson, who was the only double-digit player on the team with 14 points and two rebounds. Markedric Bell added seven points and five rebounds there as well.
Over on the Braves’ side, they’re 11-12 this year. After a three-game losing streak to Southern U, Jackson State and Grambling State, Alcorn State won their last outing versus MS Valley.
In the OT win over the Devils, Alcorn State’s Troymain Crosby posted 22 points with 13 rebounds and five assists. Maurice Howard added 19 points with six boards and three assists there also.
Alcorn State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven Monday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. The Braves are 0-6 ATS in the last six overall and the over is 20-7 in their last 27 overall.
Meanwhile, the Lions are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss of more than 20 points. The under is 19-7 in AR-Pine Bluff’s last 26 overall and 12-3 in their last 15 road games.
Looking at AR-Pine Bluff’s scoring numbers during this losing streak doesn’t inspire much confidence, but to their credit the Lions have been competitive in a decent number of those games—four points versus Jackson state and Alabama A&M for example.
That said, and considering Alcorn State has been pretty solid on offense at times lately (92 points versus MS Valley) I’m still pretty firmly on the Braves for the cover here.
