Arizona State Sun Devils -5.5 -- Over/Under: 143
The Arizona Wildcats will travel to Wells Fargo Arena (AZ) to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Arizona Wildcats lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 14-7 (5-3 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the UCLA Bruins, 90-69, this past Saturday. Arizona looked overmatched on both ends of the court against the Bruins and couldn’t fight back after UCLA went into halftime with a 38-25 lead. Arizona allowed UCLA to shoot 57.9% from the field and was outrebounded by the Bruins by a 47-30 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Brandon Williams who had 19 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
On the season, Arizona is averaging 73.0 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game on 33.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Arizona has been led by Brandon Randolph (14.9 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.0 apg), Chase Jeter (12.6 ppg, 7.2 rpg), Brandon Williams (12.0 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.7 apg), and Justin Coleman (8.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Arizona is holding their opponents to an average of 67.8 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 0.0 and a turnover margin of 3.8.
The Arizona State Sun Devils had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-6 (5-3 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the USC Trojans, 69-67, this past Saturday. Arizona State was able to make it a close game despite struggling from the field, however, couldn’t fight back after a Bennie Boatwright three-point for the Trojans put USC up for good with :15 seconds left in regulation. Arizona State shot just 30.6% from the field & 33.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was Zylan Cheatham who had a double-double with 10 points, 14 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Arizona State is averaging 78.8 ppg on 43.9% shooting from the field. The Sun Devils are averaging 7.3 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Arizona State has been led by Luguentz Dort (16.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Remy Martin (12.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.2 spg), Zylan Cheatham (11.8 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 3.7 apg), and Kimani Lawrence (10.5 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.6 apg).
Defensively, Arizona State is allowing their opponents to average 72.3 ppg on 40.4% shooting from the field. The Sun Devils have a rebound margin of 7.5 and a turnover margin of 0.3.
The Wildcats are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games following an ATS loss, however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Sun Devils are 8-18-2 ATS in their last 28 games vs. Pac-12 opponents and just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss.
Arizona has lost 3 of their last 4 games and although their defense has been decent this season, the Wildcats offense has struggled this season as they currently rank just T-187th in scoring offense, 244th in FG%, and 209th in 3P-FG%. Arizona State has won 5 of their last 7 games and currently rank 57th in scoring offense, 38th in defensive FG%, and 13th in rebound margin.
I can understand Arizona’s blowout loss at USC as the Trojans have been playing well as of late, however, their 21-point loss at UCLA has to be really worrisome for Wildcats fans. Arizona State has lost the last 6 games in this rivalry and certainly can be one of the more inconsistent teams in College Basketball, however, the Sun Devils are 9-2 at home this season and I think their going to be able to do enough agianst a struggling Arizona defense to cover this mid-range home spread. Good Luck!
