Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Colorado Buffaloes will travel to Wells Fargo Arena (AZ) to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Colorado Buffaloes dropped to 9-4 (0-1 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the Arizona Wildcats, 64-56, this past Thursday. Colorado struggled offensively against the Wildcats and couldn’t fight back after Arizona went into halftime with a 39-24 lead. Colorado shot just 35.8% from the field & 35.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Buffaloes was McKinley Wright IV who had 17 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.

On the season, Colorado is averaging 77.8 ppg on 46.2% shooting from the field. The Buffaloes are averaging 6.9 three-pointers per game on 34.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Colorado has been led by McKinley Wright IV (14.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.5 spg), Lucas Siewert (12.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.2 apg), Tyler Bey (11.1 ppg, 9.2 rpg, 1.1 spg, 1.8 bpg), and Evan Battey (8.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.0 apg).

Defensively, Colorado is allowing their opponents to average 68.1 ppg on 42.3% shooting from the field. The Buffaloes have a rebound margin of 7.1 and a turnover margin of -0.2.

The Arizona State Sun Devils lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 9-4 (0-1 Pac-12) on the season after being defeated by the Utah Utes, 96-86, this past Thursday. Arizona State struggled defensively agianst the Utes and couldn’t fight back after an 8-0 Utah run gave the Utes an 80-68 with 4:27 left in regulation. Arizona State allowed Utah to shoot 50.9% from the field & 53.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Sun Devils was Remy Martin who had 22 points, 3 rebounds, & 6 assists.

On the season, Arizona State is averaging 80.2 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Sun Devils are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 33.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Arizona State has been led by Luguentz Dort (17.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.7 spg), Remy Martin (13.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.2 spg), Zylan Cheatham (11.8 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.0 bpg), and Kimani Lawrence (11.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.1 apg).

Defensively, Arizona State is allowing their opponents to average 73.9 ppg on 40.5% shooting from the field. The Sun Devils have a rebound margin of 8.2 and a turnover margin of 1.1.

The Buffaloes are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss, however, are 20-44-1 ATS in their last 65 road games. The Sun Devils are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a double-digit loss at home, however, are just 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 home games.

Colorado has lost 3 of their last 4 games and although they rank in the top-100 in both scoring offense & defense, it’s been a struggle on the road this season for the Buffaloes as they are just 2-3 on the road this season. Arizona State picked up a huge win of the top-seeded Kansas Jayhawks before Christmas, however, it’s been a struggle since that victory after they have dropped back-to-back games at home to Princeton & Utah. Arizona State has an explosive offensive that ranks 59th in scoring offense, however, the defense has struggled as they currently rank just 238th in scoring defense.

Colorado got off to a nice start to their season, however, this is a team that isn’t as good as their 9-4 record might indicate and they continue to struggle to produce offense away from home, as in their last 4 games they are averaging just 63.3 ppg. Arizona State can be plagued by inconsistent play, however, they are the more athletic and talented team in this match-up and as I don’t trust Colorado on the road, I think Arizona State bounces back here and covers this mid-range home spread.

Pick:
Arizona State Sun Devils -6.5
