The Line: Auburn Tigers -14 -- Over/Under: 142.5
The Dayton Flyers and the Auburn Tigers meet I college basketball action from Auburn Arena on Saturday night.
The Dayton Flyers will be looking to build on a 98-59 rout of Detroit Mercy in their last outing. Obi Toppin led the Flyers with 22 points on 10 of 13 shooting with 11 rebounds for the double-double while Josh Cunningham came right behind with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a 6 of 8 mark from the foul line. Jalen Crutcher chipped in 16 points on 6 of 10 shooting with 4 threes and 6 assists while Jordan Davis added 13 points and a team-high 7 assists in the win. Ryan Mikesell added 10 points to round out the double-digit scoring for Dayton in the win, while Trey Landers chipped in 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Crutcher leads Dayton with an average of 13.5 points and 5.9 assists per game while Landers leads the Flyers in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Dayton is averaging 72.9 points per game on 49.9% shooting from the field, 32.7% from behind the arc and 65.1% from the foul line this season.
The Auburn Tigers will be looking to add another notch to their current 3-game winning streak after a 67-41 win over UNC-Asheville in their last outing. Austin Wiley led the Tigers with 14 points on 5 of 7 shooting with 5 blocks while Samir Doughty chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds as the only other Auburn player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Chuma Okeke and Malik Dunbar each had a team-high 7 rebounds while Dunbar added 5 steals and Okeke dished out a team-high 5 assists, the same amount of helpers as Jared Harper who also had 9 points. Anfernee McLemore added 5 points, 3 steals and 3 blocks as well in the victory for Auburn. Bryce Brown had 7 points and 4 assists, but still leads Auburn in scoring with 16 points per game while Okeke leads the Tigers with 7.2 rebounds per game and Harper leads Auburn in assists with 6.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Auburn is averaging 86.4 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the field, 37.1% from behind the 3-point line and 65.8% from the foul line this season.
Dayton is 3-13 ATS in their last 16 road games and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against the SEC. Auburn is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 home games.
This seems like a lot of points to give to a capable Dayton squad, but the fact is that the Flyers have had issues ATS on the road dating back to last season, and going on the road in your first true road game of the year to play a top-10 team that has one of the tougher home crowds in the nation behind them is not an ideal spot. Auburn has won each of their home games this season by at least 22 points, and while I’m not sure they win by that much here, I think Auburn wins decisively at home so I’ll lay the points with the Tigers in this one.
