The Austin Peay Governors host the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars in an OVC college basketball tilt.
The SIU-Edwardsville Cougars began the season very slow but came on before the Christmas break with three straight wins before the good times ended in a 70-52 loss at the Central Michigan Chippewas as a nine point underdog. SIU-Edwardsville trailed by eleven after 20 minutes and never recovered with Central Michigan pulling away behind a 21-3 edge at the line.
Christian Ellis was the top offensive threat for the Cougars with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists on 6-13 from the floor. Justin Benton gave SIU-Edwardsville ten points on 4-6 shooting while Daniel Kinchen added eight points, three yanks and two helpers on 3-11 from the field.
The Austin Peay Governors were generally competitive in recent weeks but were struggling to win games with defeats in three of four after a 72-55 loss to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers as a seven point underdog. Austin Peay led by two at the half but were outscored 42-23 over the final 20 minutes with the Hilltoppers holding a 58.8%-34.5% shooting edge.
Edward Stephens was the Governors top offensive weapon with 13 points on 5-10 from the floor including a 3-6 effort from beyond the arc. Averyl Ugba and Terry Taylor gave Austin Peay a combined 21 points and 15 rebounds on 6-18 shooting while Steve Harris chipped in with eight points.
Over is 8-1 in SIUE last 9 road games and over is 9-3 in SIUE last 12 Thursday games and SIUE are 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall. Austin Peay are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games overall and over is 22-8-1 in Austin Peay last 31 vs. Ohio Valley. Underdog is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings and road team is 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings.
I don’t think SIU-Edwardsville will win ten games but I will back the points and look for a cover nonetheless…
