The Western Michigan Broncos will travel to Worthen Arena to take on the Ball State Cardinals this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The Western Michigan Broncos lost their 9th straight game and dropped to 6-16 (0-9 MAC) on the season after being defeated by the Bowling Green Falcons, 85-72, this past Tuesday. Western Michigan struggled protecting the ball on the offensive end and couldn’t fight back after the Falcons took a 73-60 lead with 4:39 left in regulation. Western Michigan shot 46.2% from the field, however, committed 22 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Broncos was Michael Flowers who had 24 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, and 4 steals.

On the season, Western Michigan is averaging 71.2 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Broncos are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 33.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Western Michigan has been led by Michael Flowers (16.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 3.3 apg), Seth Dugan (15.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Josh Davis (11.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.9 apg), and Kawanise Wilkins (7.4 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.6 apg).

Defensively, Western Michigan is allowing their opponents to average 76.3 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Broncos have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of -4.9.

The Ball State Cardinals snapped their 4-game losing streak and improved to 12-11 (3-7 MAC) on the season after defeating the Northern Illinois Huskies, 72-71, this past Tuesday. Ball State allowed Northern Illinois to fight back from a 66-59 deficit with just 1:39 left in regulation to tie the game at 71-all with just :04 seconds left in regulation, however, Ball State’s Tayler Persons was able to draw a foul in the closing seconds and won the game for the Cardinal after hitting his 1st FT attempt. Ball State shot 42.6% from the field and 36.4% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Cardinals was Tayler Persons who had 29 points, 1 rebound, and 3 assists.

On the season, Ball State is averaging 79.2 ppg on 48.3% shooting from the field. The Cardinals are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Ball State has been led by Tayler Persons (17.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 4.5 apg, 1.1 spg), Tahjai Teague (14.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.5 spg, 1.1 bpg), K.J. Walton (14.5 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.2 spg), and Trey Moses (9.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 2.3 apg).

The Broncos are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games following a double-digit loss at home, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Cardinal are 17-36-1 ATS in their last 54 home games and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.

Western Michigan has lost 12 of their last 13 games and have struggled on both ends of the court as they rank just 231st in scoring offense, 252nd in FG%, and 286th in scoring defense.

Ball State has lost 7 of their last 9 games and although their defense ranks just 243rd in scoring defense, the Cardinals have been solid on the offensive end as they rank 46th in scoring offense and 29th in FG%.

Western Michigan continues to struggle to pick up their first MAC win and really haven’t looked great as of late as they’ve lost their last 5 games by an average of 19.2 ppg. Ball State has been disappointing in conference play this season, however, as they’ve shown with their wins at Toledo & NIU, they do have the talent to be a very tough out in the MAC tournament this season. Ball Sate has an outstanding offense that should be able to put up plenty of points against the Western Michigan defense and as the Broncos are just 2-9 on the road this season, I’m taking Ball State to cover this large home spread.
