Syracuse Orange -2 O/U: 134
The Baylor Bears and the Syracuse Orange will match up on the college basketball court Thursday in the NCAA Tournament First Round.
Baylor comes in here at 19-13 overall on the season. The Bears are on a four-game losing streak right now, most recently falling to Iowa State in the Big 12 Tournament last week.
In the loss to the Cyclones, Baylor’s top scorer was Mario Kegler, with 16 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Adding 14 points, five assists and two rebounds for the Bears in that one was Makai Mason as well.
Over on the Syracuse side, they’re 20-13 this year. The Orange opened up the ACC Tournament with a win over Pittsburgh, but fell to Duke last Thursday to end their conference run.
In the loss to Duke, Syracuse’s Franklin Howard put up 28 points with three assists and two rebounds to lead the team. Buddy Boheim added 15 points for the Orange there, and Oshae Brissett had 14 points with seven boards.
Baylor is 1-4-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the ACC. The Bears are 1-8-2 ATS in their last 11 overall and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Orange are 4-0 ATS in their last four NCAA Tournament games and 8-1 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss. Syracuse is 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 Thursday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven versus the Big 12.
Baylor may have been able to make a little headway in the Big 12 Tournament, but had the misfortune of running into a hot Iowa State team everybody loves right now. That said, the Bears haven’t made it past 70 points in any of their last four games so don’t expect a big turnaround here.
All of that said, given that Baylor can score when they’re on their game, and that they’ve got a similarly-abled opponent here in Syracuse, I like this one to be an entertaining matchup that could very well feature an over. I would take the Bears here, but given that they’re so ice cold against the spread I’m sticking with the Orange.
