The Belmont Bruins had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-2 on the season after being defeated by the Purdue Boilermakers, 73-62, this past Saturday. Belmont struggled offensively agianst the Boilermakers defense and couldn’t fight back after Purdue took a 50-28 lead with 14:34 left in regulation. Belmont shot just 36.4% from the field and 28.9% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bruins was Kevin McClain who had 21 points, 1 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

Jacksonville State has won 8 of their last 10 games and continue to get it done on the defensive end as they rank 82nd scoring defense, 54th in defensive FG%, and 22nd in steals per game. Belmont looks like they are once again the team to beat in the OVC this season as although their defense can give up points, they have an offense that ranks 11th scoring offense, 63rd in FG%, and 13th in three-pointers made per game. Belmont is solid at home, however, Jacksonville State has had the Bruins number as of late, winning the last 3 matchups, and as I think the Gamecocks defense will be able to keep this one close, I’m taking the Jacksonville State and the points.
