The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will travel to the Curb Event Center to take on the Belmont Bruins this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks improved to 8-5 on the season after defeating the NAIA Reinhardt Eagles, 109-77, this past Saturday night. Jacksonville State led by just a 48-41 margin at halftime however, pulled away easily for the victory after taking a 76-61 lead with 11:36 left in regulation. Jacksonville State shot 52.7% from the field and outrebounded the Eagles by a 52-37 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Gamecocks was De’Torrion Ware who had 20 points, 6 rounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and a steal in 20 minutes from off the bench.

On the season, Jacksonville State is averaging 76.0 ppg on 44.9% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks are averaging 5.4 three-pointers per game on 30.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Jacksonville State has been led by Jason Burnell (13.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.2 bpg), Marlon Hunter (12.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.2 spg), Christian Cunningham (9.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.1 spg), and Ty Hudson (9.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.2 apg).

Defensively, Jacksonville State is holding their opponents to an average of 67.2 ppg on 39.8% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks have a rebound margin of 3.6 and a turnover margin of 3.3.

The Belmont Bruins had their 3-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-2 on the season after being defeated by the Purdue Boilermakers, 73-62, this past Saturday. Belmont struggled offensively agianst the Boilermakers defense and couldn’t fight back after Purdue took a 50-28 lead with 14:34 left in regulation. Belmont shot just 36.4% from the field and 28.9% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bruins was Kevin McClain who had 21 points, 1 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

On the season, Belmont is averaging 87.0 ppg on 47.6% shooting from the field. The Bruins are averaging 10.5 three-pointers per game on 36.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Belmont has been led by Dylan Windler (18.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.9 spg), Nick Muszynski (14.1 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.6 bpg), Kevin McClain (13.4 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.7 apg, 1.7 spg), and Grayson Murphy (11.7 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 6.5 apg).

Defensively, Belmont is allowing their opponents to average 75.8 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Bruins have a rebound margin of 3.2 and a turnover margin of 1.6.

The Gamecocks are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-0-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Bruins are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games, however, just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games.

Jacksonville State has won 8 of their last 10 games and continue to get it done on the defensive end as they rank 82nd scoring defense, 54th in defensive FG%, and 22nd in steals per game. Belmont looks like they are once again the team to beat in the OVC this season as although their defense can give up points, they have an offense that ranks 11th scoring offense, 63rd in FG%, and 13th in three-pointers made per game. Belmont is solid at home, however, Jacksonville State has had the Bruins number as of late, winning the last 3 matchups, and as I think the Gamecocks defense will be able to keep this one close, I’m taking the Jacksonville State and the points.

Pick:
Jacksonville State Gamecocks +9
