The San Diego State Aztecs and the Boise State Broncos meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the Taco Bell Arena on Saturday night.
The San Diego State Aztecs will look to build some momentum after a 65-60 win over CSU-Northridge in their last outing. Jalen McDaniels led the Aztecs with 20 points on 9 of 13 shooting with a team-high 13 rebounds for the double-double while Devin Watson added 14 points and a team-high 6 assists. Jeremy Hemsley added 13 points on 5 of 11 shooting with 3 triples to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Aztecs in the win. Watson leads San Diego State with an average of 15.3 points and 5.4 assists per game while McDaniels leads the Aztecs in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, San Diego State is averaging 76.9 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 39.8% from behind the arc and 72% from the foul line this season.
The Boise State Broncos will look to pick up some steam as well after a 69-55 win over Wyoming in their last outing. Alex Hobbs led the Broncos with 17 points on 7 of 14 shooting with team-highs of 7 rebounds and 6 assists with a pair of steals while Justinian Jessup added 14 points with 4 threes and a pair of steals and Derrick Alston added 10 points to finish off Boise State’s own trio of double-digit scorers in the win. RJ Williams was held to just 7 points but still leads Boise State with an average of 13.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game while Jessup leads the Broncos in assists with an average of 2.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Boise State is averaging 69.9 points per game on 46.6% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the arc and 69.7% from the foul line this season.
San Diego State is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 8-3-1 in their last 12 conference games. Boise State is 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 conference games. The road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I can understand the logic that the home team should usually be favored when lines come out, but it’s not like Boise State has been dominant at home as the Broncos have covered just once in their 5 lined home games this season. San Diego State’s defense isn’t as feared as in years past, but the Aztecs in my opinion are the better team here and you will usually make more than you lose by taking points with the better team so I’ll take my free points with San Diego State in a game I see the Aztecs winning outright.
