The 3rd ranked North Carolina Tar Heels will travel to the Silvio Conte Forum to take on the Boston College Eagles this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The 3rd ranked North Carolina Tar Heels won their 5th straight game and improved to 24-5 (14-2 ACC) on the season after defeating the Clemson Tigers, 81-79, this past Saturday. North Carolina had all they could handle with Tigers and after losing their head coach Roy Williams for the 2nd half due to vertigo, the Tar Heels were able to hang on late after holding a 70-63 lead with 4:52 left in regulation. North Carolina shot 41.3% from the field and 39.4% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Tar Heels was Coby White who had 28 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, North Carolina is averaging 87.1 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Tar Heels are averaging 8.9 three-pointers per game on 37.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, North Carolina has been led by Cameron Johnson (16.8 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.3 spg), Coby White (16.4 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.0 spg), Luke Maye (14.8 ppg, 10.0 rpg, 2.2 apg), and Kenny Williams (8.5 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.6 apg).
Defensively, North Carolina is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 41.7% shooting from the field. The Tar Heels have a rebound margin of 9.7 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The Boston College Eagles dropped to 14-14 (5-11 ACC) on the season after being defeating by the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 81-78 in OT, this past Sunday. Boston College fought back from a 40-33 halftime deficit to force OT, however, couldn’t force double-OT after Ky Bowman’s game-tying three-point attempt fell short as time expired. Boston College allowed Georgia Tech to shoot 50.8% from the field while the Eagles shot 48.5% from the field and 17.6% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Eagles was Nik Popovic who had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and 3 steals.
On the season, Boston College is averaging 71.9 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Eagles are averaging 7.0 three-pointers per game on 32.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Boston College has been led by Ky Bowman (19.2 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 4.0 apg, 1.3 spg), Nik Popovic (14.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.2 apg), Wynston Tabbs (14.2 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.1 spg), and Jordan Chatman (13.5 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.9 apg).
Defensively, Boston College is averaging 71.9 ppg on 43.7% shooting from the field. The Eagles have a rebound margin of -0.3 and a turnover margin of -0.9.
The Tar Heels are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 18-8 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games. The Eagles are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
North Carolina has won 12 of their last 13 games and although their defense can give up some points as they rank just 228th in scoring defense, the Tar Heels offense has been outstanding as they rank 3rd in scoring offense and 2nd in assists per game.
Boston College has split their last 6 games and come into this game ranked 199th in scoring offense, 203rd in scoring defense, and 77th in defensive FG%.
North Carolina has been playing some outstanding basketball as of late and have the look of a possible 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament, even if their defense can give up a good amount of points here and there. Boston College hasn’t been great in ACC play this season, however, the Eagles do have a solid 10-6 record at home this season and has one of the best scorers in the ACC in Ky Bowman. North Carolina is a great team, however, Boston College is a tough team to play at home and as the Eagles always seem to play at a higher level when their going up against tough competition, I think Ky Bowman and Nik Popovic will be able to do enough on the offensive end to cover with the double-digit points. Good Luck!
