The Line: Bradley Braves -7 -- Over/Under:
The Delaware Blue Hens will travel to Carver Arena to take on the Bradley Braves this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Delaware Blue Hens started their 2016-17 season in style with an impressive 76-63 upset of the Richmond Spiders this past Friday. Delaware came into this game as double-digit underdogs, however had no trouble taking care of business against Richmond and cruised to victory after taking a 49-20 halftime lead. Delaware shot 56.5% from the field and held the Spiders to just 19.0% (4-21) from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Blue Hens was Ryan Daly who had 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Also contributing for the Delaware was Eric Carter who had a double-double with 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block. Delaware finished last season with just a 13-20 (5-13 CAA) record, however, did play better towards the end of last season which included a victory over the Hofstra Pride in the 1st round of the CAA Tournament. Delaware returned two of their better players from their 2016-17 squad in Ryan Daly (16.0 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.1 apg and Anthony Mosley (10.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.7 spg). Delaware also returned starters Eric Carter (6.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.3 apg) and Jacob Cushing (1.8 ppg, 1.7 rpg) which should provide the Blue Hens with some size in the front court and will hope that newcomer, Kevin Anderson, can make an impact in the Delaware backcourt.
The Bradley Braves will be looking to make it two straight victories to start the season after they defeated the IUPUI Jaguars, 68-53, this past Saturday in their season opener. Bradley was outstanding defensively throughout the game and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 28-19 halftime lead. Bradley held IUPUI to just 28.3% shooting from the field and 30.05 (6-20) from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for Bradley was Donte Thomas who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and a steal. Also contributing for the Braves was Nate Kennell who had 19 points, 3 assists, and a rebound in 27 minutes from off the bench. Bradley finished last season with a 13-20 (7-11 MVC) overall record however, with basically their whole team remaining, the Braves are poised to become more competitive this season. Returning for the Braves this season will be Darrell Brown (12.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.7 apg), JoJo McGlaston (8.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg), Donte Thomas (7.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg), and Luuk van Bree (6.5 ppg, 3.3 rpg).
Delaware finished last season with a 16-13-1 ATS record and are 8-8 ATS in their last 16 away games. Bradley finished last season with a 14-13 ATS record and are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games.
Delaware has had trouble finding success in the CAA however, with a star in the making in Ryan Daly plus an experience frontcourt, the Blue Hens showed in their season opener that they might be a tougher team to beat this season. Bradley has a ton of experience returning this season and with Darell Brown returning, the Braves hope that they can improve their offense that ranked just 318th in college basketball in scoring offense. Bradley is a solid team, however, I really liked what I saw from the Blue Hens in their season opener and as they have the best player on the court, I’m taking Delaware to cover with the points.
