Butler Bulldogs -3 -- Over/Under: 150
The Creighton Bluejays and the Butler Bulldogs meet in Big East conference college basketball action from the Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The Creighton Bluejays will look to extend their current winning streak which sits at 3 games after a 79-68 win over Providence in their last outing. Ty-Shon Alexander led the Bluejays with 18 points on 6 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 4 assists while Mitch Ballock came right behind with 17 points on 5 of 7 shooting from 3-point range with 6 rebounds and Martin Krampelj added 16 points and a team-high 9 rebounds. Marcus Zegarowski added 12 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for the Bluejays in the win. Alexander leads the Bluejays in scoring with 17.3 points per game while Ballock leads Creighton in assists with 3.4 assists per game and Damien Jefferson is Creighton’s leading man on the glass, grabbing 5.6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Creighton is averaging 84.7 points per game while owning the 4th-best field goal percentage in the country, shooting 52% from the floor, in addition to the 3rd-best 3-point percentage in the nation at 44.7% as well as shooting 63.8% from the foul line this season.
The Butler Bulldogs will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after an 84-76 loss to Georgetown in their last outing. Kamar Baldwin led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 8 of 19 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds and 4 assists while Henry Baddley added 14 points with a pair of threes and 3 steals and Joey Brunk added 11 points and 6 rebounds to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Butler in the loss. Jordan Tucker and Nate Fowler each had 8 rebounds with all of Fowler’s coming on the offensive glass, while Aaron Thomson added 9 points and a team-high 5 assists. Baldwin leads Butler with an average of 15.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while Thompson leads the Bulldogs with 4.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Butler is averaging 72.6 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field, 36.8% from behind the 3-point line and 75% from the foul line this season.
Creighton is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Butler is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 conference games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. Creighton is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Creighton hasn’t been very good on the road this season, but the win over Providence in their last outing builds up some confidence in the Bluejays. Something feels different about this Butler team, as the Bulldogs just couldn’t get anything going against Florida and lost outright to a mediocre Georgetown team at home as a double-digit favorite. The win over Providence shows how dangerous Creighton can be when the shots are falling, and given that the Bluejays have shown their ability to consistently shoot the rock, I think Creighton has a chance to win this game outright, so I’ll take the free bucket with the Bluejays here.
