The Providence Friars and the Butler Bulldogs meet in Big East college basketball action from the Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.

The Providence Friars will look to rebound from a 76-58 loss to Marquette in their last outing. Alpha Diallo led the Friars with 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 6 rebounds while A.J. Reeves had 13 points with 3 triples and Nate Watson added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Providence in the loss, while David Duke matched his 8 points with a team-high 8 rebounds as well in the losing effort. Diallo leads the Friars with an average of 16.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Providence is averaging 71 points per game on 41.7% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the arc and 68.9% from the foul line this season.

The Butler Bulldogs will look for some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games after a 79-69 loss to the same Marquette Golden Eagles in their last time out. Sean McDermott led the Bulldogs with 27 points on 8 of 13 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 8 rebounds while Kamar Baldwin chipped in 12 points on 5 of 9 shooting and Paul Jorgensen added 10 points to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Butler in the losing effort. Baldwin leads the Bulldogs with an average of 17.3 points and 5 rebounds per game while Aaron Thompson leads Butler in assists with 4.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Butler is averaging 73.3 points per game on 45.4% shooting from the field, 36.3% from behind the arc and 73.7% from the foul line this season.

Providence is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games while the under is 4-1-1 in their last 6 road games. Butler is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss while the over is 10-4 in their last 14 games overall. The home team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

I’m not sure how sold I am on laying this type of line with Butler as I don’t know if the Bulldogs are that much better than the Friars. However, the Bulldogs were more competitive in losing to Marquette and the home team has dominated this matchup in recent years and 4 of the last 5 meetings have been decided by double digits. Based on the history between these two teams, I feel that laying the points with Butler is the way to go in this one.
