The Line: Butler Bulldogs -1.5 -- Over/Under: 151
We have some Big East conference action on the hardwood as the #21 Seton Hall Pirates take on the Butler Bulldogs in a college basketball matchup.
The #21 Seton Hall Pirates will look to add to their 4 game winning streak after improving to 2-0 in Big East play with a 75-70 victory over St. John’s in their last outing. Khadeen Carrington led the team with 24 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 5 threes and 3 steals. Design Rodriguez came right behind in 2nd with 23 points on 8 of 19 shooting with 4 triples and 9 rebounds, while Myles Powell added 16 points on 5 of 8 shooting with 4 threes of his own. Angel Delgado added 12 points with team-highs of 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 blocks for the double-double to round out the scoring in double figures for the Pirates in the win. Rodriguez leads the team in scoring with an average of 18.6 points per game, while Carrington leads the team in assists with 3.7 assists per game and Delgado is averaging a double-double per game with 13.7 points to go along with his team-high average of 11.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Seton Hall is scoring 80.8 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, 37% from behind the arc and 65.5% from the foul line this season.
The Butler Bulldogs will look to bounce back after having their 4 game winning streak snapped with their first conference loss of the season, an 86-79 loss to Xavier in their last outing. Kamar Baldwin led the team with 28 points on 11 of 24 shooting with a pair of threes, while Kelan Martin hit 11 shots as well for 25 points with a pair of blocks. Paul Jorgensen added 10 points with a pair of steals and 3 assists to finish off the scoring in double figures for the Bulldogs in the loss. Sean McDermott added a team-high 11 rebounds, while Nate Fowler added 9 boards and a pair of blocks in the losing effort. Martin leads the team with an average of 19.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while Aaron Thompson leads the team in assists with 3.7 helpers per game this season. As a team, Butler is scoring 80.1 points per game on 47.8% shooting from the field, 34.7% from behind the arc and 74.7% from the foul line this season.
Seton Hall is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference matchups and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win. Butler is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference matchups while the over is 8-0 in their last 8 games overall. Seton Hall is 1-8 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
This may be the best we’ve seen Seton Hall in quite some time, however how they let St. John’s come back into the game was a bit alarming considering that the Red Storm were missing their top 2 leading scorers. Butler’s loss to Xavier is one I can stomach as Xavier is one of the best in the country and this is still the same team that took down the top ranked Villanova Wildcats just recently. Plus, Seton Hall hasn’t had much success ATS against the Bulldogs, so I’ll lay the bucket at home with Butler here.
