Butler Bulldogs -4.5 -- O/U: 139.5
The Xavier Musketeers and the Butler Bulldogs meet in Big East college basketball action from the Hinkle Fieldhouse on Tuesday night.
The Xavier Musketeers will look to extend their current 5-game winning streak after an 84-73 road win over St. John’s last time out. Naji Marshall led the Musketeers with 31 points on 8 of 19 shooting with 5 threes, a 10 of 12 mark from the foul line, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Quentin Goodin came 2nd with 13 points along with 3 assists while Zach Hankins and Tyrique Jones each had 11 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Xavier in the win. Hankins had 7 rebounds and a pair of assists while Jones led Xavier with 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the double-double. Marshall leads Xavier in scoring with 15 points per game while Goodin leads the Musketeers in assists with 4.6 assists per game and Jones leads Xavier in rebounding with 7.8 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Xavier is averaging 72.2 points per game on 47% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the arc and 69% from the foul line this season.
The Butler Bulldogs could desperately use a win after losing 3 straight following a 75-54 loss to Villanova in their last outing. Paul Jorgensen led the Musketeers with 11 points on 5 of 12 shooting while Kamar Baldwin added 10 points on 4 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 5 rebounds as the only other double-digit scorer for Butler in the loss. Aaron Thompson added 8 points with a team-high 4 assists as well in the losing effort. Baldwin leads Butler with an average of 17.4 points and 5 rebounds per game while Thompson leads the Bulldogs in assists with 4.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Butler is averaging 72.4 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 35.3% from behind the arc and 73.9% from the foul line this season.
Xavier is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a win while the under is 10-3 in their last 13 road games. Butler is 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Xavier is 14-3-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings between these two teams and 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams at Butler.
I wish I could say that I understand Butler being favored at home here, but the truth is, I don’t. Xavier is in much better form, winning their last 5 while Butler has lost 3 in a row, but furthermore, the Musketeers have been killing it against the spread as of late, while Butler has scuffled and quite frankly haven’t been playing well enough to call home court an advantage. Xavier has also owned the Bulldogs over the last few years ATS, both overall and at Hinkle Fieldhouse, so I’ll take Xavier and the points in a game I see the Musketeers winning outright.
