Rice Owls (3-2) at BYU Cougars (4-1)
|Date & Time||Wednesday November 21, 2018, 9:00 PM (EST)|
The Line: BYU Cougars -19.5 -- Over/Under: 150.5
The Rice Owls will meet the BYU Cougars in college basketball activity on Wednesday evening from Marriott Center.
Rice has gone 3-2 thus far to open up the year. In game one versus Saint Leo, the Owls took an 80-64 win before falling to Penn 92-76 in game two. Versus Alabama A&M, Rice won 73-59 then dropped another game to Houston 79-68 last Wednesday.
In the NW State game, the Owls got back on track with a big 102-74 victory. Leading the way for Rice in that one was Quentin Millora-Brown, with 21 points and eight rebounds. Drew Peterson also had a nice outing with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists.
Over on the BYU side, they’re 4-1 this season. The Cougars fell to Nevada 86-70 in their opener, but then rattled off four straight wins over Utah Valley 75-65, NW State 82-57, Oral Roberts 85-65 and Alabama A&M 91-60.
In the Bulldogs game, BYU’s top scorer was TJ Haws with 19 points, six assists and three rebounds. Yoeli Childs rattled off a double-double for the Cougars with his 18 points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
The Owls are 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the West Coast. Rice is also 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight following an ATS win and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 following a straight-up win.
Meanwhile, the Cougars are 7-0 ATS in their last seven versus Conference USA and 2-5 ATS in their last seven non-conference games. BYU is also 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 following a straight-up win.
Rice has been something of an all-or-nothing squad so far, drilling past lesser teams but faltering versus more talented squads—and not really getting close in either game.
As for BYU, they’re looking better than expected so far and may be able to do some damage if they can keep up the scoring. I like the Cougars to pound out a strong cover here.
