The Line: Cal Poly +4 -- Over/Under: 142.5
The Long Beach State 49ers and Cal Poly Mustangs meet Saturday in college basketball action at the Mott Athletics Center.
The Long Beach State 49ers could use a win here to snap a six-game losing streak. The Long Beach State 49ers are averaging 72.4 points on 41.8 percent shooting and allowing 79.7 points on 45.5 percent shooting. Deishuan Booker is averaging 17.6 points and 4.7 assists while Temidayo Yussuf is averaging 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds. Bryan Alberts is the third double-digit scorer and KJ Byers is grabbing 6.3 rebounds. The Long Beach State 49ers are shooting 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 68.7 percent from the free throw line. The Long Beach State 49ers are allowing 34.2 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 32.9 rebounds per game. The Long Beach State 49ers have lost 10 of their last 11 road games.
The Cal Poly Mustangs also need a win after losing seven of their last eight games. The Cal Poly Mustangs are averaging 63.6 points on 40.8 percent shooting and allowing 72.3 points on 45.3 percent shooting. Donovan Fields is averaging 15.6 points and 4.4 assists while Mark Crowe is averaging 10.3 points and 4.4 rebounds. Marcellus Garrick is grabbing 2.6 rebounds and Jakub Niziol is dishing 1.3 assists. The Cal Poly Mustangs are shooting 32.6 percent from beyond the arc and 62.2 percent from the free throw line. The Cal Poly Mustangs are allowing 35.8 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 29 rebounds per game. The Cal Poly Mustangs have lost five of their last six home games.
The 49ers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big West, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a straight up loss and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Mustangs are 16-43 ATS in their last 59 home games, 13-40-1 ATS in their last 54 vs. Big West and 23-55-2 ATS in their last 80 games overall. The 49ers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Cal Poly SLO and the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The over is 19-7 in Mustangs last 26 home games. The over is 7-2 in 49ers last 9 overall.
This is a really odd game, as I'm really not trying to lay points with a Long Beach State 49ers team that's lost six straight and is being outscored by an average of 10.4 points in their last five games and 12.8 points on the road overall. However, the Cal Poly Mustangs have lost seven of their last eight games, are losing by an average of 8.4 points in their last five games and are 0-6 ATS at home. The one thing going for Long Beach State is that this can still be an explosive offensive team and it has a history of lighting Cal Poly on fire. Long Beach State has come close a few times to dropping a 100 points on Cal Poly. The oddsmakers are clearly saying Cal Poly is the team worst off. I won't argue, I guess.
