The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos improved to 20-9 (9-6 Big West) on the season after defeating the CS Northridge Mandators, 76-74, this past Thursday. UC Santa Barbara allowed CSU Northridge to fight back from a 58-46 deficit to take a late lead, however, the Gauchos were able to pull out the victory after a Max Heidegger three-pointer gave UC Santa Barbara the lead for good with just :04 seconds left in regulation. UC Santa Barbara won despite shooting just 42.2% from the field and 36.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Gauchos was Max Heidegger who had 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Cal Poly had no answers for the Big West leading Anteaters and couldn’t fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 58-32 margin. Cal Poly allowed UC Irvine to shoot 55.2% from the field and was outrebounded by the Anteaters by a 57-24 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Marcellus Garrick who had 27 points and 2 rebounds.

The Gauchos are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 Saturday games, however, are just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Mustangs are 12-30-1 ATS in their last 43 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and just 13-39 ATS in their last 52 home games.
UC Santa Barbara has won 3 of their last 4 games and has been solid on both ends of the court this season as the Gauchos rank 149th in scoring offense, 42nd in scoring defense, and 100th in defensive FG%.
Cal Poly has lost 8 of their last 9 games and come into this match-up ranked just 318th in scoring offense, 320th in FG%, and 261st in scoring defense.
It’s been a tough season for the Cal Poly Mustangs and after seeing their latest effort against the Anteaters, I just can’t find a solid reason to take the Mustangs as they’ve really struggled on both ends of the court. UC Santa Barbara has been playing well over the last two weeks and between the fact that Cal Poly is just 4-7 at home and that I believe the Gauchos defense will give the Mustangs trouble, I’m taking UC Santa Barbara to cover this large road spread. Good Luck!
