The UC-Davis Aggies and the Cal-State Fullerton Titans meet in a Big West tournament quarterfinal matchup in college basketball action from the Honda Center on Thursday.

The UC-Davis Aggies come into the tournament as the #6 seed after finishing the regular season with a 11-19 overall record, including 7-9 in Big West conference play, finishing in a tie for 6th with CSU-Northridge but beating out the Matadors for the #6 seed due to a tiebreaker. UC-Davis gave themselves some stiff competition in the non-conference portion of their schedule, with losses to San Francisco, San Diego, Arkansas, Indiana, Arizona and USC just to name a few. UC-Davis started conference play at 0-3 and 1-4 before rattling off 5 straight wins to get above .500 in Big West play. Old habits die hard however, as the Aggies would lose 3 straight and 5 of 6 down the stretch to finish below .500 in conference play and drop to the 6th-seed. TJ Shorts II leads UC-Davis with an average of 14.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while Siler Schneider added 10.5 points per game and Joe Mooney chipped in 10.1 points per game this season. As a team, UC-Davis is averaging 65.6 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field, 33.1% from behind the arc and 71.6% from the foul line this season.

The Cal State Fullerton Titans come into the conference tournament as the #3 seed, finishing with a record of 14-16, including 10-6 in conference play, losing out on a head-to-head tiebreaker for the #2 seed to UC-Santa Barbara. CSF booked some tough competition in the early going, with losses to Arizona State, UCF, Wake Forest, Nebraska and Washington just to name a few. The Titans started conference play 0-2 but followed that up with 5 straight wins and victories in 9 of 10 games to push to 9-3 in conference play but fell off a bit down the stretch, closing the year with losses in 3 of their last 4 games. Kyle Allman Jr. and Khalil Ahmad tied for the team-high in scoring with 17.8 points per game while Jackson Rowe came 3rd with 11.3 points per game and led the Titans in rebounding with 8 rebounds per game this season. Austen Awosika added 8 points as well as a team-high 3.9 assists per game this season. As a team, Cal State Fullerton is averaging 72.5 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the arc and 69.9% from the foul line this season.

UC-Davis is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a losing record. Cal State Fullerton is 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 40-15 in their last 55 conference games. The under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

These two teams split the regular season series, and the Aggies would’ve finished with a 6-game losing streak had it not been for a victory over the Titans. Cal State Fullerton has had struggles of their own ATS, but the fact is that the Titans are the more balanced or the two sides here, and while this isn’t a game I’d play personally, I just think that UC-Davis will be overmatched here, so I’ll lay the bucket with the Titans in this spot.
