The William & Mary Tribe will travel to TD Arena to take on the Charleston Cougars this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The William & Mary Tribe lost their 4th consecutive game and dropped to 7-13 (3-5 CAA) on the season after being defeated by the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 93-88, this past Thursday.  William & Mary struggled defensively against UNC Wilmington and couldn’t fight back after the Seahawks took a 73-57 lead with just 6:56 left in regulation. William & Mary shot 51.7% from the field however, allowed UNC Wilmington to shoot 50.8% from the field & 41.7% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Tribe was Nathan Wright who had a double-double with 24 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, & 2 blocks.

On the season, William & Mary is averaging 75.0 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Tribe are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 33.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, William & Mary has been led by Nathan Wright (19.7 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, 1.9 bpg), Justin Pierce (14.6 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.6 apg), Matt Milon (13.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Chase Audige (10.1 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.3 spg).

Defensively, William & Mary is allowing their opponents to average 78.9 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Tribe have a rebound margin of -0.8 and a turnover margin of -2.3.

The Charleston Cougars snapped a 2-game losing streak and improved to 15-6 (4-4 CAA) on the season after defeating the Elon Phoenix, 72-53, this past Thursday. Charleston was dominated Elon on both ends of the floor in the victory and had no trouble pulling away after taking a 55-46 lead with 6:18 let in regulation. Charleston shot 48.1% from the field and forced Elon into committing 17 turnovers in the win. Leading the way for the Cougars was Jarrell Brantley who had a double-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals, and an assist.

On the season, Charleston is averaging 72.6 ppg on 47.3% shooting from the field. The Cougars are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 31.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Charleston has been led by Grant Riller (21.6 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.1 apg, 1.2 spg), Jarrell Brantley (19.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.2 apg, 1.4 spg), Brevin Galloway (8.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.3 spg), and Zep Jasper (5.3 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.1 apg).

Defensively, Charleston is holding their opponents to an average of 67.2 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Cougars have a rebound margin of 0.3 and a turnover margin of 2.4.

The Tribe are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Cougars are 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 Saturday games.

William & Mary has lost 5 of their last 6 games and although their decent on the offensive end as they rank 146th in scoring offense & 89th in FG%, the Tribe has really struggled defensively as they rank just 325th in scoring defense & 311th in defensive FG%. Charleston has lost 4 of their last 6 games and comes into this game ranked 201st in scoring offense & 77th in scoring defense.

Charleston has struggled a bit as of late, however, this is a tough team to beat as they have one of the best duos on the CAA in Grant Riller & Jarrell Brantley and have a defense that can keep opponents off the scoreboard. William & Mary’s offense hasn’t been able to make up for their defense like we’ve seen over the past few years and as the Tribe are just 2-8 on the road this season, I think the play here is to take the Cougars to cover this large home spread.

Pick:
Charleston Cougars -8.5
