The Chattanooga Mocs begin the 2018-19 college basketball campaign at the Charlotte 49ers.

The Chattanooga Mocs were a non-factor in the SoCon in 2017-18 with a 10-23 record. Chattanooga struggled in most areas as the team was outscored 73.5-69.4 and allowed opponents to hit shots at 48% which was near the bottom of the rankings.

Several Mocs players transferred out of the program leaving just two contributors from last season returning. Guard David Jean-Baptiste averaged 6.3 points and fellow guard Duane Moss 4.9 points so Chattanooga needs plenty of help from some new faces with Fairfield transfer Jerry Johnson Jr. being one of those guys after averaging 11.4 points for the Stags.

The Charlotte 49ers saw very little go favorably a season ago especially defensively. Charlotte averaged 71.2 points but allowed 79.9 points on 47.8% shooting.

The 49ers get back senior guard Jon Davis who average a team high 17.6 points and 5.5 assists. Forwards Najee Garvin and Mlos Supica combined for 13.3 points and nearly ten rebounds. The biggest addition is the hiring of Ron Sanchez which should put a greater emphasis on defense.

Chattanooga are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall and under is 7-3 in Chattanooga last 10 non-conference games. Charlotte are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 vs. Southern and are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games.

Both squads are rebuilding and will have uphill battles so perhaps the points…

Pick:
Chattanooga +5.5

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
