The Colorado Buffaloes and the Charlotte 49ers meet in college basketball action as part of the Diamond Head Classic from the Stan Sherriff Center on Christmas day.
The Colorado Buffaloes will look to salvage a win here after dropping their first two games of the tournament following a 70-62 overtime loss to Hawaii in their last outing. McKinley Wright IV led the Buffaloes with 20 points on 9 of 12 shooting with a pair of threes, 8 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists while Lucas Siewert came right behind with 19 points on 7 of 14 shooting with a pair of blocks as the only other Colorado player to score in double figures in the loss. Wright IV leads the Buffaloes with an average of 14.8 points and 5.7 assists per game while Bey leads Colorado on the glass with 9.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Colorado is averaging 80.7 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 33.8% from behind the 3-point line and 71.3% from the foul line this season.
The Charlotte 49ers will look to bounce back after a 75-61 loss to Rhode Island in their last outing. Malik Martin led the 49ers with 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting with 6 rebounds and 4 steals while Jon Davis added 14 points with a team-high 6 assists and Brandon Younger added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Charlotte in the losing effort. Milos Supica also added 4 points with a team-high 7 rebounds, 4 steals and a pair of blocks. Davis leads the 49ers with an average of 19.8 points and 4 assists per game while Supica leads Charlotte on the glass with 5.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 58.2 points per game on 40.3% shooting from the field, 28.1% from behind the arc and 77.9% from the foul line this season.
Colorado is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 neutral site games and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against C-USA while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 games overall. Charlotte is 19-40 ATS in their last 59 games overall and 6-16 ATS in their last 22 non-conference games while the over is 5-2-1 in their last 8 Tuesday games.
There is no way that I’m backing Colorado after burning me against Hawaii on Sunday, but I’m also not sure how many points I would need to side with Charlotte given that the 49ers struggle to hit 60 points whenever they take the floor. Instead, between two teams in a game for nothing but pride, I’m going to side with the under as I just can’t see a lot of scoring in this game.
