Cincinnati Bearcats -11.5 -- Over/Under: 133.5
The Wichita State Shockers and the Cincinnati Bearcats meet in AAC college basketball action from the Fifth Third Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Wichita State Shockers will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after a 77-62 win over Tulane in their last outing. Markis McDuffie led the Shockers with 25 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 8 rebounds while Erik Stevenson added 13 points and Samajae Haynes-Jones chipped in 12 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Wichita State in the win. Jaime Echenique chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds while Ricky Torres dished out a team-high 5 assists. McDuffie leads the Shockers in scoring with 18.9 points per game while Echenique leads Wichita State in rebounding with 5.7 rebounds per game and Jamarius Burton leads the Shockers in assists with 2.8 assists per game this season. As a team, Wichita State is averaging 69.7 points per game on 41.4% shooting from the field, 31.2% from behind the 3-point line and 70% from the foul line this season.
The Cincinnati Bearcats will look to rebound after having their 8-game winning streak snapped with a 65-58 loss to Houston in their last outing. Jarron Cumberland led the Bearscats with 27 points including 4 threes while Cane Broome added 10 points as the only other Cincinnati player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Nysier Brooks added 7 points with a team-high 10 rebounds while Keith Williams chipped in 8 points and 4 steals. Cumberland leads the Bearcats with an average of 19 points and 3.4 assists per game while Tre Scott leads Cincinnati in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Cincinnati is averaging 74.1 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 69.5% from the foul line this season.
Wichita State is 3-0-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games while the over is 19-7 in their last 26 conference games. Cincinnati is 21-44 ATS in their last 65 Sunday games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 home games.
A lot of Wichita State’s recent success has come at home, and Cincinnati is one of the better defensive teams in the country. But this still feels like a lot of points to be leaving on the table with a Shockers team that seems to have caught a spark lately. The problem is that all of those wins came against the bottom half of the conference and Cincy still owns an 11-point win over the Shockers in the first meeting this season. Still, it’s not like the Bearcats have been blowing teams out of the water for the most part as Cincinnati has found themselves in a lot of close games during conference play, so I’ll take a shot with Wichita State and the points in this one.
