The Line: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers -6.5 -- Over/Under:
Coming up from HTC Center on Sunday, the Texas State Bobcats and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers will be meeting up on the college basketball court.
Texas State enters this game with a 7-7 record overall. The Bobcats had two wins going in succession but lost to Appalachian State in their last game. In that one, Bobcats guard Nijal Pearson put up 18 points.
Pearson leads the way in scoring for Texas State so far this year, with 14.6 PPG and 5.9 RPG. He’s the only Bobcat player in double-figures, but Immanuel King is very close on 9.9 PPG and leads the team with 6.5 RPG.
Coastal Carolina has a 7-7 record this season as well. The Chanticleers had lost two in a row, but came back to get a win in their last appearance versus UT Arlington. In that one, The Chanticleers’ top scorer was Jaylen Shaw with 26 points.
Shaw is the lead scorer on the season for the Chanticleers with 16.7 PPG and 5.1 APG. Also in double-digits for Coastal Carolina are Zac Cutherbertson (16.5 PPG; 7.2 RPG), Demario Beck (10.9 PPG; 6.8 RPG) and Artur Labinowicz (10.2 PPG).
Texas State is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five versus the Sun Belt and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 following a straight-up loss. The Bobcats are also 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall and 0-5 ATS in their last five Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Chanticleers are 10-3-2 ATS in their last 15 home games and 6-2-2 ATS in their last 10 home games versus a team with a losing road record. The over is 7-1 in Coastal Carolina’s last eight overall and 6-1 in their last seven home games.
Texas State has shown some flashes this season, but on the whole they’ve been pretty underwhelming if they’re not going up against bargain-basement competition. As for the Chanticleers, they’ve got much better scoring overall and shocked just about everyone with that UTA win. I’ll take Coastal Carolina here.
