The South Dakota Coyotes and the Colorado Buffaloes meet in college basketball action from the Coors Events Center on Tuesday night.
The South Dakota Coyotes will look to find some consistency with a road win after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games with a 68-56 win over Cal State-Bakersfield in their last outing. Stanley Umude led the Coyotes with 19 points on 5 of 8 shooting with an 8 of 10 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Tyler Peterson came 2nd with 14 points and a team-high 3 assists while Logan Power added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for South Dakota in the winning effort. Trey Burch-Manning chipped in 9 points and 7 rebounds as well in the victory, but still leads South Dakota with an average of 16.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while Triston Simpson leads the Coyotes in assists with 2.9 assists per game this season. As a team, South Dakota is averaging 67.7 points per game on 43% shooting from the field, 32.4% from behind the arc and 74.3% from the foul line this season.
The Colorado Buffaloes will look to build on their 5-1 start after winning 3 in a row with an 86-80 win over Colorado State in their last outing. Tyler Bey led the Buffs with 23 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a perfect 9 of 9 mark from the foul line along with 10 rebounds for the double-double. McKinley Wright IV came 2nd with 18 points along with 7 rebounds and 11 assists of his own (which was as many as the entire Colorado State team combined) for a double-double of his own and Lucas Siewert got in on the double-double action as well with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Shane Gatling chipped in 13 points with 3 threes to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Colorado in the win. Wright IV leads Colorado with an average of 14.8 points and 6 assists per game while Bey leads the Buffaloes with 7.7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Colorado is averaging 85.8 points per game on 50.3% shooting from the field, 39.6% from behind the arc and 70.9% from the foul line this season.
South Dakota is 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 road games and 21-6 ATS in their last 27 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 5-0 in their last 5 non-conference games. Colorado is 19-9-1 in their last 29 home games and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a win while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games overall.
Colorado has been a tough team to go on the road and beat let alone cover against at the Coors Events Center this season, but I’m not completely trusting of the Buffaloes just yet. Yes, Colorado has handled some teams this season, including Drake, Air Force and Portland, but the Buffs allowed Colorado State to hang around and I think South Dakota, despite their inconsistencies, is just as good if not slightly better than Colorado State. The Coyotes also have a strong track record of covering on the road and being able to cover when taking a step up in competition, so I’ll take a shot with South Dakota and the points here.
