Dartmouth Big Green -6 -- O/U: 129.5
The Columbia Lions and the Dartmouth Big Green meet in Ivy League college basketball action from the Edward Leede Arena on Friday night.
The Columbia Lions will look to stay out of the basement of the Ivy League standings despite falling to 1-5 in conference play with a 5th straight defeat in the form of an 81-74 loss to Princeton last time out. Mike Smith leads Columbia in scoring and assists with 21 points and 4.7 assists per game as well as 4.2 rebounds per game while Jack Forrest is the only other double-digit scorer for the Lions so far this year with 10 points per game. Randy Brumant is averaging 6.3 points with a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game while Ike Nweke is putting up 9.2 points per game on 52.3% shooting from the field this season. As a team, Columbia is averaging 66.9 points per game on 41.7% shooting from the field, 32.1% from behind the arc and 70.9% from the foul line while allowing opponents to average 71.1 points on 44.6% shooting from the field and 34.3% from 3-point range this season. Columbia is 0-12 straight up and 3-8-1 against the spread on the road this season.
The Dartmouth Big Green will be on the hunt for their first conference win of the year while also trying to snap a nine-game losing streak after a 75-57 loss to Yale last time out. Chris Knight leads the Big Green in scoring with 13 points per game as well as 5.7 rebounds while Aaryn Rai is averaging 10.3 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game. James Frye is averaging 9.5 points and Taurus Samuels is averaging 9.3 points with both Frye and Samuels logging 2 assists per game this season. As a team, Dartmouth is averaging 64.2 points per game on 43.4% shooting from the field, 37.2% from behind the arc and 65.4% from the foul line while allowing opponents to average 64.9 points on 42.5% shooting from the field and 33.6% from behind the 3-point line this season. Dartmouth is 3-3 straight up and 1-4 against the spread at home this season.
Head to head, the home team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve gone back and forth on this game, and for good reason as I don’t know how comfortable I am backing either side in this scenario. However, it’s hard for me to lay points with a Dartmouth team that’s winless in conference and that’s lost 9 straight. Granted, a lot of Dartmouth’s struggled have come on the road and the Big Green took Harvard, Vermont, and Bryant down to the wire in their most recent home games. The problem there though, is that Dartmouth is averaging just 55.6 points per game across their last five, and it’s hard to cover numbers when you can’t score. Columbia hasn’t been great and the Lions are giving up points left and right, but I feel slightly more comfortable starting with points in this spot so I’ll take Columbia and the points in this one.
