The Houston Cougars and the UConn Huskies meet in AAC college basketball action from the XL Center on Thursday night.

The Houston Cougars will look to stay hot after making it 8 wins in a row after a 65-58 win over Cincinnati in their last outing. Corey Davis Jr. and Dejon Jarreau tied for the team lead with 16 points apiece, with Jarreau adding 8 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists while Davis Jr. had 6 rebounds and a pair of steals. Galen Robinson Jr. added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Houston in the win, while Armoni Brooks added a team-high 12 rebounds and Brison Gresham had 4 blocks. Davis Jr. leads Houston in scoring with 15.5 points per game while Robinson Jr. leads the Cougars in assists with 5.3 helpers per game and Brooks leads the Cougars in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Houston is averaging 75.2 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 34% from behind the 3-point line and 72.5% from the foul line this season. The Cougars are also tough on defense, sitting 6th in the country in scoring defense allowing just 60.7 points per game on 36.4% shooting from the field and 27% from 3-point range, the 2nd-lowest field goal percentage against and the 3rd-lowest 3-point percentage against in D-I this season.

The UConn Huskies will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 78-71 loss to Memphis in their last outing. Tyler Polley led the Huskies with 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 4 threes and 6 rebounds while Sidney Wilson added 16 points with 3 blocks and Tarin Smith and Christian Vital each had 13 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for UConn in the loss. Vital added 3 threes with 9 rebounds, a team-high 6 assists with 3 steals as part of his stat-stuffing line in the defeat. Eric Cobb added 8 points with a team-high 11 rebounds and 3 assists as well in the losing effort. Jalen Adams will be out till March with a knee injury which is a big blow considering that he leads the Huskies with 17 points and 3 assists per game while Vital leads UConn in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, UConn is averaging 77.2 points per game on 45.9% shooting from the field, 35.4% from 3-point range and 69.5% from the foul line this season.

Houston is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 35-16-2 ATS in their last 53 games overall while the under is 15-6 in their last 21 Thursday games. UConn is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. The road team is 6-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

The points with UConn at home are tempting considering that the Huskies have performed well ATS at home and are well-coached. However, the Huskies are still young and have been hard to trust for most of the season. Houston has been nothing short of impressive on the road and given how much success the road team has had in this matchup, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a double-digit victory for Houston on the road, so I’ll lay the points with the Cougars in this matchup.

Houston -8
