Harry A. Gampel Pavilion
UConn Huskies -3 -- O/U: 136.5
The USF Bulls and the UConn Huskies meet in AAC college basketball action from the Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.
The USF Bulls will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 75-63 loss to UCF last time out. Justin Brown led the Bulls with 15 points on a perfect 4 of 4 shooting with 3 threes and a 4 of 5 mark from the foul line while David Collins and Antun Maricevic each had 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for USF in the loss. Collins dished out 4 assists while Maricevic shot 4 of 5 with a pair of threes. Laquincy Rideau added 8 points with a team-high 6 assists and a pair of steals as well in the loss while Alexis Yetna had 8 points and 5 rebounds. Collins leads USF in scoring with 15.1 points per game while Yetna leads the Bulls in rebounding with 9.5 rebounds per game and Rideau leads South Florida in assists with 5.6 assists per game this season. As a team, South Florida is averaging 72.7 points per game on 43.5% shooting from the field, 33% from behind the arc and 63.7% from the foul line this season.
The UConn Huskies will look to snap a 6-game losing streak after a 65-63 loss to Wichita State in their last outing. Alterique Gilbert led the Huskies with 18 points on 6 of 16 shooting with 4 threes while Josh Carlton had 10 points with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks as the only other UConn player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Tarin Smith added 8 points with a team-high 5 assists as well in the loss. Christian Vital was held to 7 points but still leads the Huskies with an average of 13.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game this season. As a team, UConn is averaging 74.9 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, 35.3% from behind the arc and 68.5% from the foul line this season.
USF is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. UConn is 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a loss. The over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
UConn has been solid at home so I can understand the Huskies being favored at home. However, I’m not sure laying points with a team that’s lost 6 in a row is a good idea, especially when the Huskies are coming off of a heartbreaking buzzer-beater loss to Wichita State last time out. USF has had issues covering lately, but the Bulls have still been a very profitable play on the road so I’ll take the free bucket with South Florida here.
