Cornell Big Red PK -- Over/Under: 139.5
The Brown Bears and the Cornell Big Red meet in Ivy League college basketball action from the Newman Arena at Bartels Hall on Friday night.
The Brown Bears will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 8 games following a 78-70 win over Princeton in their last outing. George Mawanda-Kalema led Brown with 19 points on 8 of 13 shooting with a pair of threes and Obi Okolie came right behind in 2nd with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 4 triples while Tamenang Choh had 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting with a 6 of 7 mark from the foul line along with team-highs of 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Zach Hunsaker and Desmond Cambridge each had 10 points with Cambridge adding 3 blocks to round out the group of double-digit scorers for Brown in the win. Cambridge leads the Bears in scoring with 16.4 points per game while Choh leads Brown with averages of 8.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, Brown is averaging 75.1 points per game on 44.7% shooting from the field, 33.6% from behind the arc and 67.9% from the foul line this season.
The Cornell Big Red will look to keep their momentum going after a 67-61 road win over Harvard in their last outing as 10-point underdogs. Jimmy Boeheim led Cornell with 16 points on 5 of 11 shooting with 4 threes while Matt Morgan added 15 points and Josh Warren chipped in 14 points with 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Cornell in the victory. Steven Julian added 4 points with a team-high 8 rebounds as well as 3 steals in the winning effort for the Big Red. Morgan leads Cornell in scoring with an average of 23.5 points per game while Julian leads the Big Red on the glass with 6.5 rebounds per game and Warren leads Cornell in the assists department with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Cornell is averaging 69.8 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 34.1% from behind the arc and 70.4% from the foul line this season.
Brown is 1-9-1 ATS in their last 11 conference games and 1-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 9-1 in their last 10 road games. Cornell is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 Friday games. Brown is 5-15-2 ATS in the last 22 meetings between these two teams and 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Cornell.
With this game being a pick ‘em, I tend to side with dominant head-to-head trends and the teams’ home and away records. Brown is a near .500 team on the road SU, and a loss here would almost certainly bump the Bears from the conference playoffs where only the top-4 teams in the Ivy League make the conference tournament. However, Cornell is the better team at home, and have had Brown’s number in this matchup over the years. The Bears have also struggled within the Ivy League dating back to last season, so I’ll side with Cornell in this pick ‘em scenario here.
