The Butler Bulldogs lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 12-5 (2-2 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the 21st ranked Seton Hall Pirates, 90-87, this past Saturday. Butler held a 65-54 lead midway through the 2nd half, however, had no answers for Khadeen Carrington and the Pirates offense down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after Myles Powell of the Pirates hit two FT’s to give Seton Hall a 86-82 lead with :13 seconds left in regulation. Butler allowed Seton Hall to shoot 49.1% from the field and 50.0% (11-22) from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Kelan Martin who had 27 points, 2 assists, and a steal. On the season, Butler is averaging 80.5 ppg on 47.7% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 35.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Butler has been led by Kelan Martin (19.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg), Kamar Baldwin (15.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 spg), Paul Jorgensen (11.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.2 spg), and Tyler Wideman (9.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg). Defensively, Butler is allowing their opponents to average 71.5 ppg on 44.0% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 3.4 and a turnover margin of 3.2.
The Creighton Bluejays won their 3rd straight game and improved to 3-1 (Big East) on the season after defeating the Georgetown Hoyas, 90-66, this past Saturday. Creighton had no trouble taking care of business early in this one and cruised to victory in the 2nd half after taking a 45-27 halftime lead. Creighton shot 48.5% from the field while holding Georgetown to 36.5% shooting from the field and 26.1% (6-23) shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Bluejays was Toby Hegner who had 19 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assist, 1 block, and a steal. On the season, Creighton is averaging 90.2 ppg on 51.3% shooting from the field. The Bluejays are averaging 10.9 three-pointers per game on 38.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensviely, Creighton has been led by Marcus Foster (18.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.7 apg), Khyri Thomas (14.9 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.3 spg), Martin Krampelj (12.7 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Ronnie Harrell Jr. (7.3 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.4 apg). Defensively, Creighton is allowing their opponents to average 71.9 ppg on 41.4% shooting from the field. The Bluejays have a rebound margin of 6.3 and a turnover margin of 0.6.
The Bulldogs are 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games following a ATS loss however, are just 1-6 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Bluejays are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 19-7 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games.
Butler has dropped two straight since upsetting Villanova, however, the Bulldogs still remain one of the more dangerous teams in the Big- East and come into this matchup ranked 62nd scoring offense, 65th in FG%, and 38th in turnover margin. Creighton has won 8 of their last 9 games and has one of the most explosive offenses in the country as the Bluejays rank 3rd in scoring offense and 7th in FG%. Butler is a good team, however, the Bulldogs are just 3-4 on the road this season, and as I expect to Bluejays offense to put up plenty of points on their home court, I’m taking Creighton to cover this home spread.
