Western Illinois Leathernecks (12-16) at Creighton Bluejays (21-12)
|Date & Time||Tuesday November 6, 2018, 8:30 PM (EST)|
The Line: Creighton Bluejays -20 -- Over/Under: 149.5
The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the Creighton Bluejays will match up on the college basketball court at CenturyLink Center Omaha on Tuesday.
Western Illinois comes into this one off a 12-16 record last year, and they went 3-11 in Summit League play (last place). The Leathernecks lost in the quarterfinals of the Summit League Tournament against South Dakota.
Western Illinois has a few seniors to help guide the proverbial ship this year. Otis Dortch, Ryan Maas, Jordan Hughes and Brandon Gilbeck have all returned for their final year on the court with the Leathernecks.
Over on the Creighton side, they’re fresh off a solid 21-12 season last year, going 10-8 in Big East play for a third-place finish. The Jays lost in the quarters of the Big East Tournament to Providence, and lost in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament to Kansas State.
The Bluejays lost four seniors to graduation this year, and also Khyri Thomas to the NBA draft. Notable among a few recruits coming into Creighton this year are Marcus Zegarowski and Christian Bishop, who should be able to contribute this year.
The Bluejays are 22-8 ATS in their last 30 Tuesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games. Creighton is also 2-9 ATS in their last 11 overall and the under is 6-2 in their last eight Tuesday games. The under is also 8-3 in the Jays’ last 11 home games and the over is 10-4 in their last 14 non-conference games.
The over is 5-0 in Western Illinois’ last five non-conference games.
Creighton remains on the top tier of national programs, but they seem to have stalled out and aren’t showing much improvement lately—first-round exits from the national tournament will do that to a team. Still, they’ve got some talent and if the Jays can get off to a good start they might be able to hit 20 wins again.
I’m going to stick with Creighton here.
