The Line: Creighton Bluejays -2 -- Over/Under:
We have some Big East conference college basketball action on Saturday afternoon, as the #5 Xavier Musketeers visit the Creighton Bluejays.
The #5 Xavier Musketeers will be looking to add to their current 7 game winning streak following a 98-93 overtime win over Butler in their last outing. Trevon Blueitt led Xavier with 26 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 6 triples while Kerem Kanter came 2nd with 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting. Naji Marshall added 15 points on 4 of 5 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds, while Sean O’Mara went a perfect 5 of 5 from the floor in 20 minutes for 14 points to round out the quartet of double digit scorers for Xavier in the win. Blueitt leads Xavier with an average of 19.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game while Quentin Goodin leads the team in assists with 5.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Xavier is scoring 85.2 points per game on 50% shooting from the field, 37.8% from behind the arc and 77.1% from the foul line this season.
The Creighton Bluejays will look to keep their momentum going after winning 3 of their last 4 games, including a narrow 76-75 win over DePaul in their last outing. Marcus Foster led Creighton with 29 points on 11 of 19 shooting with 5 threes, while Khyri Thomas added 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 3 triples and 3 steals. Ronnie Harrell Jr. added 10 points along with team-highs of 8 rebounds and 5 assists to finish off the trio of double digit scorers for the Bluejays in the win. Foster leads Creighton in scoring with 20.3 points per game, while Harrell Jr. leads the Bluejays in rebounding with 6.5 boards per game and Davion Mintz leads the way in assists with 3 helpers per game this season. As a team, Creighton is scoring the 8th-most points per game in the country with 85.7 per game on 50.2% shooting from the field, 38.1% from behind the arc and 76.8% from the foul line this season.
Xavier is 4-1 ATS in their lat 5 conference matchups and 13-4 ATS in their last 17 road games while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 Saturday games. Creighton is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference matchups and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a win while the under is 8-3 in their last 11 games overall. The underdog is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
With lines like these, it’s no wonder why the underdog has had so much success in this matchup. Sure, the Bluejays are at home where they’re undefeated SU this season, but the fact is that Creighton, albeit on the road, struggled to take down a below average DePaul team. Xavier has shown that they can get the job done on the road, and if this line is a trap, then I’ll get caught hook, line and sinker, but getting points with one of the best teams in the country is too good to pass up, so I’ll back Xavier here.
