Creighton Bluejays -6 -- Over/Under: 154
The Xavier Musketeers and the Creighton Bluejays meet in Big East conference college basketball action from the Chi Health Center Omaha on Sunday afternoon.
The Xavier Musketeers come into this game looking to snap a 4-game losing streak after an 80-73 loss to Georgetown in their last outing. Naji Marshall led the Musketeers with 16 points on 6 of 13 shooting with 3 threes. Paul Scruggs added 15 points along with 3 threes and a team-high 7 rebounds while Quentin Goodin added 14 points on 4 of 8 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 4 assists. Scruggs leads Xavier in scoring with 13.4 points per game while Tyrique Jones leads the Musketeers in rebounding with 7.4 rebounds per game and the aforementioned Marshall leads Xavier in assists with 3.3 helpers per game this season. As a team, Xavier is averaging 73.6 points per game on 46.9% shooting from the field, 33.3% from behind the 3-point line and 69.9% from the foul line this season.
The Creighton Bluejays could use a win after losing 5 of their last 7 games following an 83-67 loss to St. John’s in their last outing. Ty-Shon Alexander led the Bluejays with 15 points along with 3 triples while Martin Krampelj added 14 points with a pair of steals. Marcus Zegarowski added 13 points with 6 assists and 3 steals to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Creighton in their last outing. Davion Mintz dished out a team-high 7 assists while Mitch Ballock added 8 points, a team-high 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Alexander leads Creighton in scoring with 17.4 points per game while Krampelj leads the Bluejays in rebounding with 6.3 rebounds per game and Ballock leads Creighton in assists with 3.6 assists per game this season. As a team, Creighton is averaging 82.7 points per game while owning the 6th-best field goal percentage in the country, shooting 50.1% from the floor, and the 4th-best 3-point percentage in D-I, shooting 41.6% from behind the 3-point line, in addition to a 66.9% mark from the foul line this season.
Xavier is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record, 7-18-3 ATS in their last 28 games overall and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. Creighton is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 conference games while the over is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a loss. Xavier is 4-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams, the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between the two and the underdog is 8-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I can definitely understand Creighton being favored here at home and the Bluejays have found a win here and there while the Musketeers keep finding ways to lose as of late. However, 5 of the last 6 meetings and 6 of the last 8 meetings have been decided by 5 points or less and it’s not like Xavier is getting their doors blown off during this losing streak, with only one loss coming by double-digits and losing by an average of just 6 points per game (ironically where this line sits at the time that I’m posting this). I just think these two teams have a history of playing close games, so I’ll take a shot with Xavier and the points here.
