The Charlotte 49ers are gunning for the upset of the Davidson Wildcats in Tuesday college basketball action.
The Charlotte 49ers defeated Longwood 42-39 to even their record at 2-2. Charlotte managed just 15 first half points and trailed by four before a 27-20 second half was enough to squeeze out the win. Charlotte lost the shooting battle 35.6%-26.2% but turned 16 Longwood fouls in to a decisive 14-3 advantage at the Charity stripe.
Malik Martin was the lone 49ers player to score in double figures as he led all scorers with 17 points and four steals on 4-9 from the field and 7-8 from the stripe. Dravon Mangum followed with nine points and ten rebounds on 3-9 shooting while Jon Davis added seven points, eight rebounds and four helpers on 1-5 from the floor and 4-6 at the stripe.
The Davidson Wildcats upped their record to 5-1 with a 78-69 victory versus visiting Northeastern. Davidson held a small 45.8%-44% shooting edge but managed nine more looks at the basket which was decisive with a tight box score otherwise.
Kellan Grady carried the Wildcats by pouring in a game high 30 points on 11-19 marksmanship and 6-6 at the line. Jon Axel Gudmundsson gave Davidson 16 points, five pulls and three steals on 4-10 from the floor and 6-6 at the stripe while Luka Braijkovic added 12 points, five rebounds and two steals on 5-7 accuracy.
