Davidson Wildcats -2.5 -- Over/Under: 129.5
The VCU Rams and the Davidson Wildcats meet in A-10 conference college basketball action from the Belk Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The VCU Rams will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after a 69-63 win over La Salle in their last outing. De’Riante Jenkins led the Rams with 15 points on 4 of 11 shooting with a pair of threes while Marcus Santos-Silva added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks. Marcus Evans and Issac Vann each added 12 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for VCU in the win, with Evans adding a team-high 8 rebounds as well in the victory. Evans leads the Rams with an average of 13.3 points and 2.5 assists per game while Santos-Silva leads VCU on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, VCU is averaging 69.9 points per game on 42% shooting from the field, 29.7% from behind the 3-point line and 68.2% from the foul line this season.
The Davidson Wildcats will look to build on a pair of consecutive wins following a 61-56 win over George Mason in their last outing. Kellan Grady led the Wildcats with 17 points along with 6 rebounds while Jon Axel Gudmundsson added 13 points and team-highs of 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals as the only other Davidson player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Luka Brajkovic added 8 points in 13 minutes on the floor while KiShawn Pritchett added 6 rebounds of his own in the win. Gudmundsson leads the Wildcats with an average of 17.1 points and 4.7 assists per game while Brajkovic leads Davidson on the glass with 6.4 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Davidson is averaging 73.6 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 32.5% from behind the arc and 76.7% from the foul line this season.
VCU is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games while the under is 11-4 in their last 15 games overall. Davidson is 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. The under is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.
Davidson has gotten the job done with defense in their first couple of conference games, and while I’m not sure how long that can hold up, it could hold up here against a VCU team that doesn’t score a ton of points and relies on their defense. However, VCU is no stranger to going on the road and getting the job done in terms of covering as the Rams beat Fordham by 25 on the road just a couple of games ago, have a win over Texas and a narrow 8-point loss that was decided late against arguably the top team in the country in Virginia. VCU plays a grind it out style that the Wildcats may not be able to hold up to, even at home, so I’ll take a shot with VCU and the points in a game I think the Rams win outright.
