The Detroit Mercy Titans lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 3-5 on the season after being defeated by the Akron Zips, 71-59, this past Saturday. Detroit Mercy couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end and couldn’t fight back after the Zips took a 53-42 lead with 6:05 left in regulation. Detroit Mercy shot just 30.3% from the field and 25.7% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Titans was Antoine Davis who had 27 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Detroit Mercy is averaging 73.5 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Titans are averaging 11.0 three-pointers per game on 40.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Detroit Mercy has been Antoine Davis (29.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.5 apg), Josh McFolley (14.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.1 apg, 2.3 spg), Derrien King (7.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 1.5 apg), and Chris Brandon (4.6 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.0 bpg).
Defensively, Detroit Mercy is allowing their opponents to average 75.9 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Titans have a rebound margin of -8.4 and a turnover margin of 2.1.
The Dayton Flyers lost their 3rd straight game and dropped to 4-3 on the season after being defeated by the 25th Mississippi State Bulldogs, 65-58, this past Friday. Dayton held a 51-44 led with 6:19 left in regulation, however, their defense had no answers for the Bulldogs offense down the stretch and couldn’t fight back after a Nick Weatherspoon three-pointer gave Mississippi State a 6-point lead with just :28 seconds left in regulation. Dayton shot 41.4% from the field and was outrebounded by Mississippi State by a 41-31 margin. Leading the way for the Flyers was Ryan Mikesell who had 15 points, 7 rebounds, and an assist.
On the season, Dayton is averaging 69.3 ppg on 47.3% shooting from the field. The Flyers are averaging 5.6 three-pointers per game on 30.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Dayton has been led by Josh Cunningham (13.8 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg), Jalen Crutcher (13.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 5.9 apg), Obadiah Toppin (11.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg), and Trey Landers (10.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg, 1.9 apg).
Defensively, Dayton is holding their opponents to an average of 65.1 ppg on 41.6% shooting from the field. The Flyers have a rebound margin of 1.1 and are averaging 5.0 steals per game.
The Titans are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games. The Flyers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. however, just 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games overall.
Detroit Mercy continues to struggle on the defensive end of the ball as they rank just 263rd in scoring defense however, they have been outstanding ATS as of late thanks to their offense, led by Antoine Davis, that ranks T-12th in three-pointers made per game & 25th in 3P-FG%. Dayton might have lost three in a row however, all have been in close games against solid teams (Virginia, Oklahoma, Mississippi St). Dayton has been a solid team on the defensive end as they rank T-58th in scoring defense and although they’ve struggled offensively beyond the arc, they do rank 96th in FG%. This is a pretty big number however, playing in Dayton is tough and as I think the Flyers will be able to slow down the Titans three-point attack, I’m taking Dayton to cover this double-digit spread.
