The Rhode Island Rams will travel to University of Dayton Arena to take on the Dayton Flyers this Friday night in College Basketball action.

The Rhode Island Rams snapped a 5-game losing streak and improved to 13-14 (6-9 A-10) on the season after defeating the George Washington Colonials, 80-53, this past Tuesday. Rhode Island had no trouble on the offensive end against the Colonials defense, and had no trouble pulling away in the 2nd half after going into halftime with a 44-31 lead. Rhode Island shot 54.2% from the field and 47.6% from beyond the arc while holding George Washington to 0.0% (0-11) shooting from three-point range. Leading the way for the Rams was Jeff Dowtin who had 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists.

On the season, Rhode Island is averaging 68.1 ppg on 41.9% shooting from the field. The Rams are averaging 5.0 three-pointers per game on 26.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Rhode Island has been led by Jeff Dowtin (15.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 3.9 apg, 1.4 spg), Cyril Langevine (14.1 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 1.5 bpg), Fatts Russell (12.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.6 spg), and Tyrese Martin (8.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg).

Defensively, Rhode Island is holding their opponents to an average of 67.2 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Rams have a rebound margin of 2.7 and a turnover margin of 1.4.

The Dayton Flyers won their 3rd consecutive game and improved to 19-9 (11-4 A-10) on the season after defeating the UMass Minutemen, 72-48, this past Tuesday night. Dayton stormed out the gates in this one and easily had this one wrapped by halftime after the Flyers went into the break with a commanding 40-18 lead. Dayton shot 55.3% from the field while holding UMass to just 34.6% shooting from the field and 14.3% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Flyers was Obadiah Toppin who had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and a steal.

On the season, Dayton is averaging 73.6 ppg on 50.4% shooting from the field. The Flyers are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 33.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Dayton has been led by Josh Cunningham (14.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.7 apg), Obadiah Toppin (13.9 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.7 apg), Jalen Crutcher (13.1 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 5.6 apg), and Jordan Davis (10.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.9 apg).

Defensively, Dayton is holding their opponents to an average of 66.5 ppg on 41.4% shooting from the field. The Flyers have a rebound margin of 2.4 and a turnover margin of -0.8.

The Rams are 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Flyers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record.

Rhode Island has lost 7 of their last 10 games and although their defense has been decent as the Rams rank 68th in scoring defense, Rhode Island has struggled offensively as they rank 287th in scoring offense and 296th in FG%.

Dayton has won 4 of their last 5 games and come into this game ranked 157th in scoring offense, 4th in FG%, and 56th in scoring defense.

Rhode Island has struggled in A-10 play and although their defense can keep them in games, especially when they’re at home, it’s been a disappointing season for Rhode Island as the Rams have had trouble generating offense all season. Dayton is one of the better A-10 teams this season as they’ve gotten some nice production from their underclassman and between the fact that the Flyers are 12-3 at home and defeated Rhode Island by a 77-48 margin on the road in early February, I’m taking Dayton to cover this home spread. Good Luck!

Dayton Flyers -8.5
