The Norfolk State Spartans will travel to Memorial Hall (Dover, DE) to take on the Delaware State Hornets this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The Norfolk State Spartans won their 5th straight game and improved to 18-11 (13-1 MEAC) on the season after defeating the Coppin State Eagles, 72-38, this past Saturday. Norfolk State dominated Coppin State from the start in this one and easily cruised to victory in the 2nd half after taking a 51-29 lead midway through the 2nd half. Norfolk State shot 41.9% from the field while holding Coppin State to just 22.0% from the field and 15.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way Spartans was Steven Whitley who had 11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 steals.

On the season, Norfolk State is averaging 73.9 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Spartans are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 37.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Norfolk State has been led by Nic Thomas (14.4 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.7 apg), Derrik Jamerson Jr. (11.0 ppg, 4.0 rpg), Steven Whitley (9.3 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.4 spg), and Jordan Butler (8.7 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.9 bpg).

Defensively, Norfolk State is allowing their opponents to average 68.7 ppg on 40.5% shooting from the field. The Spartans have a rebound margin of -0.2 and a turnover margin of 1.0.

The Delaware State Hornets dropped to 5-22 (2-12 MEAC) on the season after being defeated by the Morgan State Bears, 76-58, this past Saturday. Delaware State led by a 34-33 margin at halftime, however, struggled on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after the Bears took a 62-47 lead with 10:28 left in regulation. Delaware State shot just 39.6% from the field and committed 24 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Hornets was Saleik Edwards who had 17 points, 3 rebounds, and an assist.

On the season, Delaware State is averaging 62.9 ppg on 35.4% shooting from the field. The Hornets are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 30.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Delaware State has been led by Kevin Larkin (16.2 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.5 spg), Saleik Edwards (10.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.4 apg), Johquin Wiley (9.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 4.4 apg, 2.0 spg), and Ameer Bennett (8.4 ppg, 4.9 rpg).

Defensively, Delaware State is allowing their opponents to average 77.2 ppg on 45.5% shooting from the field. The Hornets have a rebound margin of -4.3 and a turnover margin of -0.6.

The Spartans are 9-2-2 ATS in their last 13 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points. The Hornets are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 games overall and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 home games.

Norfolk State  has been outstanding since MEAC play began in early January and come into this game ranked 137th in scoring offense, 102nd in scoring defense, and 28th in defensive FG%.

Delaware State has lost 4 of their last 6 games and has really struggled on both ends of the court this season as the Hornets rank just 339th in scoring offense & 307th in scoring defense.

Norfolk State has been the best team in the MEAC this season, however, it will be interesting to see their approach over their last two games as the Spartans have already clinched the regular season MEAC championship. It’s been a tough season for the Hornets, however, they did cover in a 77-63 loss at Norfolk State earlier this season and as I think they’ll be getting at least double-digits points in this one, I think the play will be to take Delaware State and the points. Check back when/if the line has been released.

Pick:
Delaware State Hornets - +12
