The IPFW Mastodons and the Denver Pioneers meet in Summit League college basketball action from the Magness Arena on Thursday night.

The IPFW Mastodons will look to build on their current 4-game winning streak after picking up a 79-64 win over Western Illinois in their last outing. Jarred Godfrey led the Mastodons with 17 points on a perfect 7 of 7 from the floor with 3 threes while Matt Holba and Marcus DeBerry each had 13 points with 3 threes. Kason Harrell added 11 points while John Konchar chipped in 7 points along with a team-high 6 assists and 4 steals. Dylan Carl added 3 points with a team-high 10 rebounds as well in the winning effort for IPFW. Konchar leads IPFW with an average of 18.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game this season. As a team, IPFW is averaging 83.7 points per game on 48.6% shooting from the field, 37.8% from behind the arc and 68.7% from the foul line this season.

The Denver Pioneers will be looking to snap a 4-game losing streak after an 81-71 loss to North Dakota State in their last outing. Ronnie Harrell Jr. led the Pioneers with 23 points on 6 of 11 shooting with a pair of threes and a 9 of 9 mark from the foul line while Ade Murkey and Jase Townsend each had 13 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Denver in the win. Murkey added 6 rebounds and a pair of steals while Townsend added a pair of threes and a pair of steals. Joe Rosga added 7 points and a team-high 4 assists as well in the losing effort for Denver. Harrell Jr. leads Denver with an average of 13.9 points and 5.8 rebounds per game while Murkey leads the Pioneers in assists with 2.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Denver is averaging 69.9 points per game on 44.3% shooting from the field, 38.4% from behind the arc and 75.3% from the foul line this season.

IPFW is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a win and 11-30 ATS in their last 41 road games while the over is 40-18 in their last 58 conference games. Denver is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 11-2 in their last 13 Thursday games. IPFW is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Denver.

Laying points on the road with the Mastodons is never really ideal given how poorly IPFW has gone ATS on the road over the last few years. However, the Mastodons are the team in much better form here and the Pioneers have had major issues against the number when it comes to taking a step up in competition. If the Mastodons want to give themselves a legit change in the Summit League tournament, they have to take care of teams they should beat and I think the Mastodons do just that here so I’ll lay the bucket with IPFW.
