The South Dakota State Jackrabbits will travel to Magness Arena to take on the Denver Pioneers this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits won their 7th straight game and improved to 18-6 (8-1 Summit) on the season after defeating the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles, 86-80, this past Thursday. South Dakota State led by a 44-33 margin at halftime and had little trouble picking up the victory after taking a 76-62 lead with just 5:00 minutes left in regulation. South Dakota State shot 50.8% from the field and 43.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was Mike Daum who had 23 points, 9 rebounds, and a block.

On the season, South Dakota State is averaging 84.8 ppg on 50.7% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 41.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Dakota State has been led by Mike Daum (24.8 ppg, 11.3 rpg, 1.7 apg), David Jenkins (19.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.3 apg), Skyler Flatten (15.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), and Tevin King (9.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, South Dakota State is allowing their opponents is averaging 72.1 ppg on 40.4% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits have a rebound margin of 4.8 and a turnover margin of -0.4.

The Denver Pioneers had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-15 (2-6 Summit) on the season after being defeated by Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons, 91-81, on January 26th. Denver had no answers on the defensive end against the Mastodons and couldn’t fight back after Purdue Fort Wayne took a 65-52 lead with 11:26 left in regulation. Denver shot 55.9% from the field, however, allowed the Mastodons to shoot 50.8% from the field & 48.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Pioneers was Ronnie Harrell Jr. who had a double-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assist, and a block.

On the season, Denver is averaging 69.5 ppg on 44.6% shooting from the field. The Pioneers are averaging 7.7 three-pointers per game on 38.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Denver has been led by Ronnie Harrell Jr. (14.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 2.2 apg), Joe Rosga (13.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.2 spg), Ade Murkey (12.0 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.3 apg), and Tory Miller-Stewart (8.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg).

Defensively, Denver is allowing their opponents to average 76.8 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Pioneers have a rebound margin of 2.0 and a turnover margin of -3.0.

The Jackrabbits are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS loss and 25-12 ATS in their last 37 games vs. Summit League opponents. The Pioneers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games, however, are just 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record.

South Dakota State has won 8 of their last 10 games and has been one of the better offensive teams in all of College Basketball as the Jackrabbits currently rank 11th in scoring offense, 3rd in FG%, and 3rd in 3P-FG%. Denver has lost 7 of their last 10 games and has struggled on both ends of the court as the Pioneers currently rank 273rd in scoring offense & 288th in scoring defense.

South Dakota State was able to pick up a 12-point victory at home agianst Denver in early January and as I just don’t see how the Pioneers defense will be able to slow down Mike Daum in the Jackrabbits offense, I’m taking South Dakota State to win this one by double-digits and cover.Good Luck!

Pick:
South Dakota State Jackrabbits -9
